Halls Newsletter
Issue 5. August

What a busy month it has been - Flatting Expo,

Open Day, Halls Ball, and no doubt lots of assignments!!!
I hope that those of you who took advantage of the Flatting Expo are feeling more
prepared for considering your options as you go into next year. There was lots of good food
for thought when it comes to safety around cooking, drinking, and taking care of your
environment. If you are struggling to decide who to flat with, whether or not to stay in the halls,
or have any other uncertainties about your living situation next year, please be sure to approach a
member of our team to talk things through.
I have had some great feedback from Open Day and wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge THANK
YOU! to all of you who volunteered your time to help potential incoming Massey students learn about the
Halls and what a great place they are to live. I know there were a large number of you who just got
in there on the day and took people under your wings what an awesome way to show what
were all about here, its things like this that make our team so proud to be working
with you all.
The Ball was a fantastic night enjoyed by many. It was nice to see everyone dressed
up and having a lot of fun. Be sure to keep a close eye out for pics up on Facebook
in the coming weeks.
With Mid-Semester Break just around the corner I am sure you are all super busy
preparing for tests and finishing assignments. Its really important at this time of the
year to recognise just how far you have come since Move-in Day and Orientation.
Your body and your brain have no doubt been through the wringer in one way or another
numerous times over the last six months so dont forget to take the time to look after them.
Prioritising time for rest and relaxation is a key aspect of time-management to ensure that you dont burn
out and get unwell. Also, take time to consider others everyone will feel the pressure in the last half of the
semester. Think about what you can do on your return from break to ensure that you are contributing to a
happy and healthy hall community.
Once again, if there is anything that you need from us, please do be sure to speak with an RA or come
and see us at Accommodation Services in the Student Centre. If you are travelling over the break,
be safe. We look forward to seeing you all back in a couple of weeks!

satisfying activities like organisations, sports, and entertainment. Organise your
academic and other obligations AROUND these commitments to fun.
3. Time vs. task focusThink of your day in terms of time, not the tasks you have
to do. Devote time to important tasks every day. Its hard to predict how long a task
will take, so its hard to schedule with great precision. But you can reliably schedule

schedule every hour of the day, leave empty time slots, and schedule in recreation

When things come up and you are deciding whether to diverge from your

Pause, take a moment to think. Remember whats most important to you and do

sudden fear about a grade prevent you from exercising. Be ready to reduce the

CHAPLAINCY

Hi everyone,

Well time is flying by, and we are almost halfway through the second semester. I hope you are managing to
survive the rain and the cold although I have heard the halls tend to be well heated, so hopefully you are not
needing to cope by studying in your sleeping bag! (I remember doing this in my student flatting days!)

Winter can be a time when it is hard to get motivated to do things (like study and exercise!), and we feel like
staying in bed a bit longer. It is a time when we particularly appreciate small things like free hot drinks, a warm
study/hangout space, free hot soup (Tuesday lunchtimes), free pancakes (Wednesday nights), and friendly
people. You can find all of these things at the Centre, so feel free to come and partake!

While tertiary study can be stressful, enjoy the ride. Its a unique and exciting time in your life. Remember that we
at the Centre are here to listen and support you throughout your studies, so pop in and see us anytime.

Take care and keep up the good work,

Rebekah (on behalf of the Chaplaincy Team)
