Introduction 1
Geartronic, general
Geartronic is an automatic shifting system
mounted on the VT2014B/VT2514B. The
gearbox has 14 forward gears and 4 reverse
gears. The Geartronic changes gears auto-
matically, but the driver can also choose to
change gear manually, either in low and
high range. The clutch is controlled auto-
matically and consequently there is no
clutch pedal.

Automatic shifting
The simplest way of driving the vehicle un-
der normal conditions is to use automatic
(position A). Gear changing takes place
automatically and the driver can concen-
trate on the actual driving.

Driving programme
There are three different driving pro-
grammes:
economy
power
braking
Economy
The is always active when starting the mo-
tor (showed with an E in the display). The
economy programme gives priority to fuel
economy and is used when driving under
normal conditions.
Power
The power programme is activated and de-
activated using the E/P button (see picture). T0008282
The power programme is used when driv-
ing in hilly terrain requiring up and down
gear changes at higher engine speeds than
is normal with the economy programme.
Brakes
The braking programme is engaged with
the auxiliary brake lever. See the drivers
manual.

Kick-down.
Kick-down is activated by pressing the ac-
celerator pedal all the way down (position
B). Kick-down will often result in a
lower gear being engaged so that the en-
gine works at a higher speed. This is
possible in both economy and power pro-
grammes but not in hold position.

Manual shifting
You can select to drive only with manual
shift or take over from the automatic
shifting system whenever necessary. The
gear lever is used like a normal gear lever
except that there is no clutch pedal.
High/low split
On the left-hand side of the gear lever is a
button for the manual selection of high/low
split. The splitter gear is changed immedi-
ately when the spring-loaded button is
released. The selected splitter gear is shown
on the display. An up arrow indicates low
split and a down arrow indicates high split.
High/low range
High and low range is selected automati-
cally by the system depending on the speed
of the vehicle.

Reverse/crawl gears
To prevent reverse or crawl gears being en-
gaged unintentionally, the gear lever has a
resistance built in.
Reverse gears
The gearbox has four reverse gears (rL, rH,
RL, RH). The vehicle must be stationary
before the reverse gear can be engaged.
Moving the gear lever to position R pre-
selects the low range and low split (rL)
whereby the reverse gear can only be
changed by using the button on the gear
shaft.

Consideration must be taken to the incline

Clutch
The clutch is a dry plate clutch, i.e. no
converter. Therefore, never allow the clutch
to slip in high gear when pulling away. The
information lamp will come on and a sym- T3014366

Particulate filter CRT
Important! This vehicle is equipped with a particulate filter which requires that a fuel with
a low sulphur content (less than 50 ppm = 0.005% sulphur) is used. Use of fuel with a
higher sulphur content or mixing in other fuel can destroy the particulate filter in a short time.
Normally it is not necessary to take into consideration the fact that the vehicle has a particu-
late filter. Long periods of driving (several hours) with a low engine load or long periods of
idling can, however, cause problems in that the soot in the filter does not burn due to low ex-
haust temperature.
The particulate filter greatly reduces the emission of particulates (PM), hydrocarbons (HC)
and carbon monoxide (CO).
A proportion of the nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gases from the engine are converted
in the catalytic converter to nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which helps to burn the soot particulates
which are caught by the filter. The total content of NOx remains unchanged, but the propor-
tion of NO2 increases.
NO2 can, in moderate concentrations, irritate the respiratory passages and aggravate asthma.
However, the particulate filter does contribute to a considerably improved environment on ac-
count of its capacity to considerably reduce the quantity of particulates, hydrocarbons and
carbon monoxide.
Important! The fact that the vehicle is equipped with a particulate filter does not mean that
it can be used in some other way than a vehicle without a particulate filter. The exhaust gases
are still not healthy to breathe in, i.e., make sure that there is ventilation when the vehicle is
idling. An exhaust extractor hose must be connected to the exhaust opening if the engine is
to be driven in an enclosed space.
Important! With each oil change the filter insert should be taken out, cleaned and turned.
