Joint Functional Activity Relationship with Degree of Pain In Knee Osteoarthritis Patients
in Hospital Muhammadiyah Palembang.

ABSTRACT

Osteoarthritis is also called degenerative joint disease is an cartilage abnormality, synovium,


subchondral bone, ligaments and muscles, which are crucial to the movement of the joint. The
disorder is marked by changes in the clinical, histological and radiological. The ability of
functional activity is the ability to perform specific tasks related to day-to-day activities. The
knee of pain causes a decrease in the functional activity of the joint The purpose of this study
was determine the relationship between joint functional activities with the degree of pain in
patients with osteoarthritis of the knee in Hospital Muhammadiyah Palembang. This was an
observational analytic study with cross sectional design. Sampling was using purposive sampling
technique with a sample of 35 respondents who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data
ware obtained from the questionnaires Western Ontario and McMaster Universities
Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Hypothesis testing using
Pearson correlation test and got a significance value of 0.002 which shows that the correlation
between the degree of pain and joint functional activities was significant with 0.515. The higher
of VAS score should be the lower functional activity of the joint. Further research with cohort
design could be refernce to the functional activity of the joints and the degree of pain.
