Delta-Wye Transformation
by
Rod Diego T. Palaganas

Introduction

In many circuit applications, we encounter

components connected together in one of two ways to
form a three-terminal network: the Delta, or (also
known as the Pi, or ) configuration, and the Y (also
known as the T) configuration.

Synthesis

The Delta-Wye transformation is an extra

technique for transforming certain resistor combinations
that cannot be handled by the series and parallel
equations. This is also referred to as a Pi - T
It is possible to calculate the proper values of transformation. For the transformation to be equivalent,
resistors necessary to form one kind of network ( or Y) the resistance between each pair of terminals must be
that behaves identically to the other kind, as analyzed the same before and after. The circuit of delta wye is
from the terminal connections alone. That is, if we had equivalent to each other but the arrangement of the
two separate resistor networks, one and one Y, each resistance in the circuit will be of different values but
with its resistors hidden from view, with nothing but the theoretically the current and voltage across different
three terminals (A, B, and C) exposed for testing, the areas in the circuit must be relatively close to each other.
resistors could be sized for the two networks so that It is possible to write three simultaneous equations to

network apart from the other. In other words, equivalent
and Y networks behave identically.

Discussion

Based on the figure in the laboratory manual, the

figure consists of 5 resistors (R1=120 ohm, R2= 150 ohm,
R3=75 ohm, R4= 200 ohm, R5, 220 ohm), and a voltage
of 15v. Looking at the Table 1, it is asking for the Edc Grading system:
