Symptom

This SAP Note describes the general procedure for performing a new setup of statistical data in the Logistics
Information System (LIS). In addition to this basic procedure, it is essential that you also read the
application-specific documentation defined in Customizing for each application (Purchasing, Sales and
Distribution, Production, Inventory Controlling). You can find this documentation as follows (starting at the
highest level of the Customizing tree):
+ Logistics - General -> Logistics Information System -> Logistics Data
Warehouse -> Tools -> Set Up Statistical Data
-> Application-Specific Setup of Statistical Data
At this location in the Customizing settings, the programs that execute the setup in the individual applications
are also called.

How a setup of statistical data works

The setup reads either all original documents or only those required by the user (for example, purchase
orders, production orders, material documents, billing documents, and so on) and uses these as a basis for
setting up new statistical data. In this process, each document is updated into the info structures of the
Logistics Information System (LIS) in accordance with the update rules defined in Customizing.

Does the setup of statistical data work correctly?

As a the setup may take several hours, you should only perform a complete new setup after you set up one
document or a small number of (incorrect) documents and check the result. To do this, follow the steps
below:

1. Call the setup program for a small number of test documents

From Customizing, call the correct statistical data setup program for the application. (Path -> see above)
Enter the information structure you want to set up and, as the version, enter "&(T". Important: The version "&
(T" must not already exist, in other words, "'&(T" must be empty.

About the concept of "version": All data records of an information structure begin with a three-digit version
number. The current statistical data (the "actual data") has the version number 000. Data is selected from
this version when a standard analysis is executed. To ensure that the actual data is not modified, the new
setup must occur in a different version. The naming convention for the versions in which a new setup occurs
is that they must begin with "&(".

2017-09-04 Page 2/8

On the selection screen for the setup, enter the document numbers for which you want to execute a test
setup. Then start the setup. (This can only be done online if the number of documents is small.)

2. Check the result of the setup

To view the newly set-up documents in the standard analysis, you must ensure that the standard analysis
accesses the version "&(T". To do this, follow the menu path "System -> User Profile -> User Parameters",
enter the parameter ID "MCR", and save as the value "X". On the selection screen of the standard analysis,
the system now displays an input field in which a version other than "000" can be entered.

Now call the relevant standard analysis. On the selection screen (at the bottom), overwrite the version "000"
with "&(T" (if you have followed the steps above). The standard analysis then displays the data from the new
setup.

3. The user parameter "MCR" can be reset again.

General procedure for the setup of statistical data in the Logistics Information System (LIS)

When you execute a new setup (of a complete info structure), you want the data of the actual version (000)
to be replaced by the data from the new setup. For this purpose, two procedures (A and B) are described
below, which have the following advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages of variant A:

The old actual data can be compared with the newly set-up data.

Disadvantages of variant A:

Data is saved 2 to 3 times (3 times if the actual data is saved).

R/3 operation must cease during the entire procedure.

The runtime is longer than with variant B.

Advantages of variant B:

Data is only saved once or twice (twice if the actual data is saved.

R/3 operation must only cease during the actual setup.

The runtime is shorter than with variant A.

Disadvantages of variant B:

Comparison of the old actual data with the newly set-up data is not possible.

Variant A represents the "normal" procedure, and is suitable for standard datasets. However, variant B is to
be used for large volumes of data.
If you follow the procedure described above, your test of a small number of documents will have indicated

that the setup will be performed correctly. However, it may still be useful, after the setup is complete, to
compare all of the new data with the old data (or at least a random sample). This option is only available with
variant A.

Important additional information for deleting and convert the data

Note that, when the RMCVISCP report is mentioned below, this must only be used in releases lower than
Release 4.x. For all releases as of 4.x, the report RMCVISCP is replaced with the report RMCSISCP.
Therefore, you must use the more recent report because the report RMCVISCP is no longer supported by
SAP Support in releases as of 4.x.

Variant A

R/3 operation must cease until all of the steps from 2 to 5 (inclusive) are complete. In particular, no
documents are to be created or modified.

1. Delete the target version of the setup

If, for example, the new setup is to take place in the version "&(N", delete this version using the program
RMCVISCP. On the selection screen of RMCVISCP, enter the relevant info structure or info structures and
the version to be deleted. (You must also select the "Delete a version" checkbox.)

You cannot select the version "000" as the target version for the setup. This means that you cannot enter
"000" as the version to be deleted.

2. Perform the setup

In Customizing (see the path under "Symptom" above), call the setup for the relevant application. As all or at
least a large number of the original documents are to be newly set up, we recommend that you perform the
setup in the background and schedule it to occur over a weekend.

3. Check the data from the new setup

You can display the newly set-up data in the standard analysis. This requires that you set the MCR
parameter to "X" (see above) so that you can enter the version "'&(N" on the selection screen of the standard
analysis (if the setup occurred in this version).

In the standard analysis, you also have the option of comparing version "000" (the old actual data ) with the
newly set-up data (version "&(N") using the plan/actual comparison. (Menu path for the plan/actual
comparison in the standard analysis: Edit -> Comparisons -> Plan/Actual ... )

4. Delete version "000"

Delete version "000" with the RMCVISCP program. If there is sufficient disk space, you can, of course, create
a backup version of version "000" before you delete it, for example, in version "&(S". (This version must be
empty or be deleted beforehand.) This backup is not absolutely necessary, as the old actual data is likely to
have errors (otherwise, you would not be performing a setup).

5. Copy the newly set-up data to version "000"

Use program RMCVISCP to copy the newly set-up data into the target version "&(N". R/3 operation can now
be resumed.

6. Delete version "&(N".

In the last step, you delete the version "&(N" using the RMCVISCP program.

Variant B:

With variant B, R/3 operation must only cease during steps 4 and 5.

1. Save the actual data.

Copy version "000" into a different version, for example, "&(S". To do this, call the program RMCVISCP and
enter "000" as the source version and, for example, "'&(S" as the target version. The target version must be
empty or be delete beforehand (with program RMCVISCP).

The actual data does not necessarily have to be saved. This applies, in particular, if the actual data contains
a large number of errors. However, it is useful to have saved the data in case the setup has to be terminated
for any reason. The old actual data can then be copied back into version "000" in this case.

2. Deactivate the data update

You must deactivate data updating in Customizing for the info structures that are going to set up again.
Drill-down in the Customizing tree as follows:

+ Logistics - General -> Logistics Information System -> Logistics Data Warehouse + -> Update -> Activate
Update.

Then select the relevant application. On the following screen, you can double-click to select the relevant info
structures. In the next dialog box, select the "No update" radio button under "Update".

3. Delete version "000" (using the program RMCVISCP)

If you have large datasets, the deletion of version "000" alone may take several hours. Crucially, however,
once you have deactivated updating of the information structures, R/3 operation can resume as normal.

4. Activate data updating

Once you have deleted version "000", you must activate updating of the relevant info structures again (follow
the same steps described above under point 3).

5. Perform the setup

Call the setup for the relevant application in Customizing. The setup must be performed in version "000".

R/3 operation must cease during the setup. R/3 operation can continue as normal both before and after this
step.

6. Check a random sample of data in the newly set-up version "000"

A comparison with the old actual data is only possible if the old actual data was saved earlier, for example, in
version "&(S". However, this comparison is only useful if R/3 operation was stopped between saving of the
old actual data and the new setup. Otherwise, there is the risk that documents could have been created or
changed in this interim period. In this case, these document changes would only be taken into account in the
newly set-up data but not in the old actual data.

7. Delete version "&(S" with program RMCVISCP

As a final step, you can also delete the backup copy of the old actual data.
