Course Description:
Art I is a course designed for all students interested in learning fundamentals of drawing, painting,
printmaking, sculpture, commercial design, and art appreciation, while exploring the properties of
various media, the importance of art history through creative problem and critical thinking skills.

Course Objectives:
Students will gain a fundamental understanding of how to create their own authored works of art using
an array of media and problem-solving skills. Students will also gain an appreciation for: art history,
subject matter/meaning in art, media techniques, personal voice/style, and aesthetics.

Assessment:
Grades are based on assigned project work, studies, and exams. All grades are based on rubric points
measuring: primary curricular student learning objectives, creativity/personal style, skill mastery,
craftsmanship, and overall engagement in art and design processes from initial studies to completion.
