10. Fire System& fire Meter and Requirements.

Fire system used in buildings is usually either sprinkler system type or hose reel type this will be
authorized by authorized by CDD. So water meter is required for fire system at the upstream of the
fire if separate water tank.

Fire system inside residential complex will be approved by CDD, but if there is separate fire water
tank, the water meter at the upstream to tank is required.
W AT E R I N S TA L L AT I O N S C O D E

If there are combined water tanks, water demand required for fire must be considered in calculation
with the domestic demand and others.

Separate fire tanks for the fire system in the building:

In case of separate fire tanks, fire water meter will be installing in the upstream of the tanks.

Fire system supply from the combine water reservoir:

In case of combine water tanks, fire meter should be installed at the down steam within 1.5m spool
pipe far from the fire water pumps. This should be clearly mentioned in the submitted drawings,
and mention clearly in water schematic diagram at the BP (Building Permit) stage in order to be
revised by CSD authorized engineers.

12. MDPE Services Connection.

12.1 MDPE Installation:
This specification covers laying of MDPE (Medium Density Poly Ethylene) pipes with associated
fittings for size range 20 mm (1/2) up to 63 mm (2) underground and aboveground.

Excavation and backfilling for MDPE service connection will be in accordance with section
4 and 5 of this specification, noting that, the pipe depth shall be 600 mm as detailed in the
attached drawing no. (GIS / STD / 51B).

MDPE service pipe shall have 100 mm sand bedding, 150 mm sand cover above crown of
the pipe, another 150 mm selected backfill material with 100 % compaction and backfill
material of varied depth up to ground level, all in accordance with road department highways
maintenance section requirements.

Trench marker tape with aluminium strip in the middle shall be laid at minimum 300 mm depth
below ground level along route of pipe. Marker tape should be detectable warning tape of
150mm wide, 250 microns thickness to detect the pipe through metal detector.

Water Installations Code CS-CSI-P1/C2

The contractor shall tap distribution main at depth of minimum 900 mm and bring MDPE pipe
from ferrule to a higher elevation without use of any fittings, as far as possible, so that MDPE
pipe could be laid at a minimum depth of 600 mm from ground level, from distribution main till it
reaches customers boundary wall.

The minimum width of trench excavation is to be service pipe duct diameter (Either 100 mm Or
150 mm) used plus 200 mm and maximum width of trench excavation is to be service pipe duct
diameter used plus 300 mm.

When laid above ground along customers wall premises or elsewhere, polyethylene pipe shall
be protected with GRP duct of minimum thickness 3 mm.

Two sizes are allowed; 2 duct for 20 mm (1/2), 25 mm (3/4) and 32 mm (1) and 3 duct for 50
mm (1 1/2) and 63 mm (2).

The GRP duct shall start from ground level and be extended to an appropriate height to secure
exposed MDPE pipe near the water meter service cabinet. The GRP duct shall be of semi-
circular shape and be firmly fixed to the wall with brackets.

MDPE pipes shall be multi-layer construction ( i.e. Black MDPE With Outer Layer Of Blue MDPE).

Installation of MDPE pipes and fittings shall be carried out by plumbers who have been trained
and certified by the manufacturers for pipes and fittings. The contractor shall submit copies of

W AT E R I N S TA L L AT I O N S C O D E
plumbers training certificate issued by the manufacturer to KAHRA MAA as proof of their skill
and competency in performing such installations.

All other clauses of section 12 such as pressure testing, sterilization are applicable for laying
MDPE pipes and fittings.

Note: From customer side, the following requirements shall be satisfied before giving a MDPE
service connection;

Domestic service cabinet shall be fixed inside the customers wall along with a UPVC duct
underneath and minimum 300mm below the ground level and continued with a 90 deg bend to
allow easy access of MDPE service connection.

Since KAHRA MAA is installing Lockable Stop Valve inside water service cabinet which can
be operated only by KAHRA MAA, the customer must fix his own gate valve or stop valve after
the water meter, to control water supply in case of any leak in his internal line. Another stop
valve just before customer ground tank is optional, which customer can fix, if he desires for
maintenance and service performance.

12.2 Materials MDPE:

Polyethylene pipes shall be MDPE, PE - 80, SDR 11 and PN - 12.5 bar at 20C. and shall be
multi-layer construction (i.e. Black MDPE with outer layer of Blue MDPE).

Polyethylene pipe shall be protected with PVC / GRP duct of minimum thickness 3 mm when
laid aboveground along customer wall premises or elsewhere. Two sizes are allowed; 2 PVC
duct for 20 mm (1/2), 25 mm (3/4) and 32 mm (1) and 3 PVC duct for 50 mm (1 1/2) and 63
mm (2).

The GRP duct shall start from ground level and be extended to an appropriate height to secure
exposed MDPE pipe near the water meter service cabinet. The PVC / GRP duct shall be of semi-
circular shape and be firmly fixed to the wall with brackets.

To trace route of polyethylene pipe laid underground, a 150 mm wide trench marker tape of 250
micron thickness with aluminum stripe at its centre, shall be laid above the polyethylene pipe, at
300 mm minimum depth below ground level in order to detect it through metal detector.

PE pipes are normally supplied in bundles in coils of 200, 300, 400 or 500 m. length depending
on their size.

Fitting shall be compression type (Gunmetal) to suit MDPE pipe and must be UV resistant and
shall have a pressure rating of PN16 @ 50 deg C for standard fittings and PN 12.5 for universal
transition couplings (PE To Copper, PVC - U, Steel).

13. Water Meter Cabinets.
