Detailed Changes for Windrock MD 4.

Windrock MD
o

Compatibility notes

Windrock MD now
requires Windows
7 or above.

Windrock MD no
longer creates
individual D6 setup
files and now
ignores individual
D6 setup files for
all current machine
setups. Therefore,
using Windows
Explorer to copy
D6 setup files from
one machine to
another is no
longer supported.
o

Major new features

6400 support

Windrock TopView
support

Combustion
statisticswhen
taking multi-cycle
power pressure
data, the 6320 and
6400 will collect
statistics on the
percentage of
good combustion,
poor combustion,
pre-combustion,
and over-pressure
cycles. These
values are
available in the
Calculator tool on
the analyzer and in
Windrock MD and
in trend plots in
Windrock MD.

Sensor points'
ranges (for 4-20mA
sensors) and
sensitivity (for
accelerometers,
velocity sensors,
and prox sensors)
are now saved with
the data, so that
changing those
values in the
Sensor Point
Editor won't affect
historical data. You
can view and edit
historical data's
sensor range or
sensitivity in the
Data Explorer. This
is useful if you
realize after you
took the data that
your sensors were
set up incorrectly
or if you want to
add sensor range
or sensitivity data
to older (pre-4.4)
data.

A new collection
point type,
"Calibrate
sensors," is now
supported. When
you first open a
machine, you'll
receive a notice at
the bottom of the
screen asking if
you want to update
your collection
point setup for the
new unified route
features.

The Spark Survey

report now
includes a page on
ionization angles if
available.
o

Plotting

Group plots now

have a power stats
box option.

Clear Lines now

permits clearing
No Data
Available lines.

The Calculator tool

now displays
calculated average
clearance instead
of calculated
suction clearance
for compressor
data.

Calculator boxes
and the
RPM/Timestamp
box have been
updated to match
the rest of MD's
look and feel and
to work better on
higher resolution
displays. Copying
and pasting data
from Calculator
tool boxes to Excel
works better.

Removed the Cursor

tool's Pins feature
o

Setups

Improved user unit

handlingunit
name lengths are
no longer limited,
and MD now uses
proper symbols
(such as in
instead of in^3).
Note that the new
user units are not
backwards
compatible to pre-
MD software
(including On-
Guard/DA).

The Sensor Point

Editor now allows
specifying which
spark plug a
secondary ignition
sensor point uses.
You should almost
never have to
modify this,
because Auto
Generate will set it
for new machine
setups, and any
existing machines
with an Ignition
Report Setup will
be updated.

Trend points

The Trend
Point Editor
now supports
copy and
paste. This
can be useful
for copying
trend point
warnings and
alarms from
one setup to
another.

Calculated
trend points
can now
have units of
measuremen
t assigned. If
user units
(such as
metric) are
enabled, then
calculated
trend points
must have
units of
measuremen
t assigned to
work
correctly.

Inputs to
calculated
trend points
are now
always in
English units.
In particular,
temperatures
are in
Rankine.
Most
calculations
should not be
affected, as
long as the
calculated
trend point's
units of
measuremen
t are set
correctly.

Trend points
now refer to
warning
and danger
limits instead
of warning
and alarm
limits, for
consistency
with the rest
of Windrock's
products.

The Trend
Point Editor
window now
shows units
next to
warning and
danger
values.

Changing user
units (e.g.,
changing
between
English and
metric) will
now update
trend point
warning and
danger limits
for the new
units.

The trend point

setup report
now shows
the fixed
scale chosen
for each
trend point.

Group plots

Group Plot
Auto
Generate will
show the
power stats
box for power
parade TDC
plots.

Group Plot
Auto
Generate
now creates
spark trace
group plots.
Auto
generated
power
cylinder plots
no longer
include
crank-angle
spark data
(since the
6400 won't
take crank-
angle spark
data).

Collection points

The Collection
Point Auto
Generate
wizard now
includes a
Manual/Tem
perature
item. By
default, all
manual/temp
erature
points,
besides valve
cap
temperatures
, will be
added to the
route as the
first point in
the route.

To simplify
usage, the
Collection
Point Editor
now always
shows
unused
points,
instead of
having a
Show
unused
points
checkbox.

Balancer and spark

The number of
cycles for
spark survey
and the
number of
cycles for
balancer are
now
configurable
within
Windrock MD
(under the
Balancer and
Spark Survey
window) and
can now be
configured
separately
from each
other.
Collection
Point Auto
Generate
now sets
each of these
to whatever
number of
cycles is
chosen for
ignition and
for power
pressure,
respectively.

Reduced the
maximum
spark sample
length from
10,400 sec
to 8,400
sec, to
accommodat
e the 6400's
higher
sample rate.

Fixed data scales

The Fixed
Data Scale
Editor now
indicates
whether
scales are
enveloped or
not, instead
of showing a
low value
that the
software will
ignore for
enveloped
data.

Machine
setups are no
longer limited
to 160 fixed
data scales.

The Software
Options screen
now warns if you
try to set raw
vibration sample
density to 4 per
degree on a unit
with a rated speed
of 1050 RPM or
above, since 4 per
degree may not
work reliably that
that speed.

Viewing setups
(Setup ...
View) looks much
nicer

Windrock MD
Viewer can now
view machine
setups.

Ease of use
improvements for
multi select
windows (used to
select
manual/temperatur
e points within the
Collection Point
Editor, trend points
within the Trend
Select window,
points to plot within
the View Ring
Buffer window,
points to plot within
the Group Plot
Editor, and panel
points within
WebView panel
pages setup)
o

Trending

Trends of
compressor valve
losses now honor
the "Use nozzle
traces" software
option.

Trending of
engine/compressor
RPM is now
allowed, even if not
all
engine/compressor
data was taken for
a given run.

Trend plots of spark

data now allow
trending of mean,
low, high, spread,
and SD of any
spark survey
parameter. Trend
plots of spark data
now require that
spark survey data
be taken (instead
of allowing only
dynamic (crank-
angle) spark data).
o

Reporting

The Reports window

now lists all
available balancer
data (both
encoder-based
and non-encoder-
based), instead of
making you
choose which you
want to look at.

Exported rod load

report data now
has consistent
columns.
(Previously, which
column numbers
were used
depended on
whether or not rod
load and/or rod
drop calculations
were available.)

The balancer
report's bar charts
now have tick
marks indicating
the high and low
pressure check
limits.

Fixed the
compressor report
to use the same
calculations as the
economic report
when the
theoretical flow
comparison
calculation method
is selected.
o

Station/machine
management

The Import Machine

window now shows
the dates available
within the machine
archive.
o

Data Explorer

Added a Sensor
column for
showing the type
of sensor used,
where relevant
(e.g., for 4-20 mA
ultrasonic sensors
versus ULT-200
versus the 6400's
new ULT-3000
smart sensor)

The Data Explorer

can now delete
balancer and spark
survey data, move
balancer and spark
survey data to
other dates, and
edit as found / as
left runs for
balancer data.

Spark detail data

now shows speed
if available.

Spark stats data

now includes
ionization angle if
available.
o

Platinum support

Allow plots of live

data even if no
data has been yet
saved to disk.

Ring buffer playback

now loads
compressor
temperatures to
allow for
performance
calculations.

The Collection Point

Editor can better
handle various
unusual or
problematic
Platinum setups.

Platinum now takes

representative
scans and no
longer gives the
option of always
averaging multi
scans.
o

On-Guard support

Updating On-Guard
module values (for
example, to assign
channels to a P-
Guard) now
correctly updates
the trend point list.

The Guard module

values setup
window and Trend
Point Editor now
show which On-
Guard module
handles a given
point.
o

Other enhancements

PDFs are faster,

smaller, and better
quality.

Improved support for

high DPI displays
(such as the
Microsoft Surface
Pro and some
newer laptops use)

Improved mouse
wheel support

Numerous bug fixes

WinTrans and FFT

o

Calculations

When looking at
FFTs, phase
calculations
(including the
cursor's Phase
display and the
Cross Channel
Phasing tool) failed
to apply the
Hanning window if
appropriate.
o

Setups

View FFT Points

(List Current FFT
Points) now
includes point
numbers when
copying to
clipboard or saving
as CSV.

Band sets now refer

to "warning" and
"danger" limits
instead of
"warning" and
"alarm" limits, for
consistency with
the rest of
Windrock's
products.
o

Other enhancements

6320 Portable Analyzer

o

The 6320 can now save

as found and as left
online balancer link data.
o

Individual power pressure

curves are now pinned
while taking data,
instead of only applying
pinning after the fact, to
the averaged pressure
curve.
o

The 6320 now defaults to

representative scans,
even when upgrading
from very old software
versions. If you want to
always average scans,
you must explicitly
enable this option. (If
you've already explicitly
enabled the option, no
action is needed.)
o

The current load step is

now saved along with
current run number, so if
you quit taking data and
resume later, load step
is remembered.
o

The current position in the

collection point route is
saved, even if you leave
a machine (or power
down the analyzer) then
re-open it.
o

To improve data
acquisition on potentially
problematic engines, the
6320 will allow a greater
cycle-by-cycle variation
in RPM before reporting
errors.
o

Removed the Enable run

numbers option. Run
numbers are always
enabled.
o

Improved setup screens

handling of new points
o
