Hospital Instructions

for Safe Infant Formula Preparation, Storage and Use


Powdered formulas are not sterile. To minimize the risk of infection, powdered formulas are not recommended
for use in premature or immunocompromised infants unless no appropriate nutritional alternative is available,
and then only with strict medical supervision and careful preparation, storage and use. 1

Follow hospital procedures carefully Recommendation
Refrigeration Dedicated refrigerators recommended
Check label against individual patients feeding order Store at 35-40F (2-4C) no longer than
(confirm product identity and dilution) 24 hours

Wash and dry hands/work area thoroughly Room Temperature Should be fed immediately, but hold no
longer than a total of 2 hours before feeding
Ensure container integrity If bottle is warmed, discard after 1 hour

Avoid touch contamination of formula at each step After Feeding Begins Feed within 1 hour or discard
