SUMMARY STATEMENT (May be used as a referee statement)

Classroom Teacher/Mentor

Student Name: Aimee Eberhard

Professional Knowledge

During her placement Aimee has sought to further her professional knowledge and skills through
researching information, resources and lesson ideas.
Aimee has demonstrated an increasing knowledge of the physical, social and intellectual development
of students through planning activities which cater for the needs and abilities of the students. She has
asked questions and discussed ways to differentiate in her lessons to cater for the specific learning
needs of the students.
Aimee has shown development in her understanding of teaching strategies, methodologies and content
relevant to Year 1 students in all curriculum areas.
She was able to incorporate ICT and other strategies, such as games, to support her lessons and to
enhance the literacy and numeracy skills of the students.
Aimee has displayed the ability to plan logical and sequential lessons, using ACARA and other current
curriculum documents, to support students in their learning.
She has shown an increasing awareness of formative and summative assessment throughout a unit of
work, and has planned an assessment task for a Mathematics topic.

Professional Practice

Aimees calm, quiet manner has enabled her to develop a rapport with the students and she has
encouraged inclusive participation of all class members.
Aimee was able to implement sequential lessons which were relevant and enabled the students to
successfully participate and complete the tasks.
She became aware of the need for clear, explicit instructions to ensure students understood their tasks
and were able to begin their task independently. She assisted students, when necessary, in small
groups, or individually, to stay on task and to understand and complete their task.
Aimee has developed some confidence in implementing a variety of teaching strategies and using a
range of materials in her lessons. She has independently located resources to engage and motivate the
students and demonstrated good organisation and preparation for her lessons.
Flexibility has been shown when there have been lesson changes, or due to availability of space.
Her behaviour management strategies are developing and she followed class approaches, such as
Class Dojo and positive reinforcement, to encourage teamwork in the class and to manage challenging
behaviours.
Aimee has developed an awareness of a variety of techniques and strategies to gain the attention of the
class, and is beginning to develop confidence in using some of them.
Progress was shown in the time management of lessons and in giving instructions for lesson transitions.
Aimee has demonstrated an understanding of the daily routines of the classroom and an appreciation
of the organisation and time required before and after school each day, to ensure the classroom is
ready and resources are prepared and accessible for lessons.

Professional Engagement

Aimee attended all staff meetings, Year 1/2 team meetings, school PD and yard duties. She
showed an interest in updating her knowledge and practice through asking questions and
organising observation in different year levels.
Self-evaluation and feedback assisted Aimee in planning future lessons and in setting realistic goals for
herself and the students.
Aimee readily accepted constructive advice and feedback from lessons and was proactive in her efforts
to improve her teaching practices and knowledge.
At all times she was respectful, sensitive and confidential in her interaction with parents, staff members
and external professionals.
It has been a pleasure working with Aimee and I wish her well in her teaching career.
