Abstract
Background Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) is one of the most common cyanotic congenital heart
disease (CHD) in children and occurs in 10-15% from all types of congenital heart disease. Many
of them experience malnutrition as a complication that results in high morbidity and mortality.
Total correction of ToF expected to increase growth in children
Objective To describe the growth of children with Tetralogy of Fallot before and after total
correction
Methods This was a descriptive study using medical records of patients with total correction of
ToF, age 0- 10 years from 2014 until 2016. Weight and height was evaluated before closure and
at 1, 3, 6 month after correction. The variable was anthropometric measurement, namely weight
for age, height for age, weight for height, and body mass index for age. Children with other
congenital anomaly will be excluded.
Results There are 14 children who underwent total correction of ToF, 6 boys (42,9%) and 8 girls
(57,1%). Eight children (57,1%) between 2-5 years and 6 children (42,9%) between 5-10 years.
The average of WAZ, HAZ, WHZ before total correction were -1,98 1,45; -2,44 1,03; -1,82
1,92, respectively. The average of WAZ after total correction were -1,58 1,46; -1,47 1,58;
-1,34 1,60. The average of HAZ after total correction were -2,13 1,58; -2,03 1,53; -1,96
1,53. Meanwhile, the average of WHZ after total correction were -1,31 1,96; -0,96 1,97;
-0,95 1,79.
Conclusion The growth in children with Tetralogy of Fallot were increased after total correction.
