Description
% STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY
The Chemetron Fire Systems Photoelectric Smoke Detector
features 2 bi-colored LEDs. In standby the LEDs flash green
once every second. If the detector sensitivity drifts outside the
UL listed sensitivity window, the LEDs will flash red every 3
seconds. Using the latest in photoelectric and surface mount
technology, this detector reacts positively to smoldering and
flaming fires.
% SIMPLIFIED OPERATING PRECISION
It utilizes a labyrinth-style nondirectional smoke chamber.
An infrared LED is mounted on one side and a silicone photo
diode receiver is mounted at an angle on the opposite side.
In normal standby condition, the receiver senses little or no
light from the LED. When smoke enters the chamber, smoke
particles reflect light from the LED onto the receiver. The light
received is converted into an electric signal; signals are
measured and counted in a comparator. When two consecu-
tive signals exceed the basic level within a specified period of
time, the time delay circuit triggers the alarm signal. Both LEDs
light continuously red during an alarm condition.
The detector head is fitted with an Allen head locking pin
to help eliminate unauthorized removal and discourage
vandalism.
% ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OPTIONAL
An optional relay base is available to permit the smoke de-
tector to activate additional devices such as remote visual and
audible alarms, door closers, etc. The compact relay module
fits into the detector junction box.

% ARCHITECT/ENGINEER SPECIFICATIONS
Early warning smoke detector shall be Chemetron Fire
Systems detector stock number (see ordering information). It
shall be of the photoelectric type and shall operate on the light
scatter principle.
Detectors shall be of low-profile design and shall protrude
from ceiling not more than 2 inches.
Each detector shall be adequately protected against radio
frequency interference and voltage transients. A labyrinth
arrangement shall be used to protect the photo diode located
in the smoke chamber from stray light pulses caused by
camera flashes or other exterior high-energy light sources.
Detector head shall be fitted with a locking pin that requires
an uncommon tool to allow for removal from its base.
The head shall incorporate dual pulsing bi-color green LEDs
as an indication of power at the detector head and red when
the detector is outside the UL window. The LED shall illuminate
steadily to provide a positive indication when the detector is
in the alarm condition. Wiring shall be accomplished by using
screw terminals.
The base shall be capable of being used with both photo-
electric and ionization detector heads. An optional relay base
shall permit detectors to activate additional devices such as
remote alarms, door closers, etc.
