Introduction
The Academic Writing Workshop Series focus on developing research and academic writing skills for
researchers. There are all together seven workshops planned in this series. The broad objective is to
expose participants to different components of research process and writing skills. In Workshop 1 -
Understanding Journal Articles And Interpreting Their Contents for example, participants will be
exposed to different journal articles on which they will be guided to understand the purpose for why
the articles are written, and develop their skills to explain, argue and critique the articles for use in
their thesis/ report writing. Other workshops will focus on specific stages of research process with
the last two concentrating on the publication for research that they undertake (e.g. journal and/ or
conference).
Pedagogy
The workshop will be interactive in nature combining multiple approaches such as lectures on basic
concepts, class discussions on issues raised, group presentations and tests. Activities may involve
role playing, brainstorming sessions, and internet search for selected problems, scenarios and case
analysis. The program will be participant-centred facilitated by professor. Participants will be
required to think possible problem areas that exist in the organization that can be used for research
before attending the workshop.

conduct or who are already involved in either small or large scale research for industrial and /or

Conclusion
It is our hope that participants attendance in the workshop series will equip them with research and
writers skills; they go back with new ideas on how to apply those ideas in the thesis with an
apprehensible presentation in writing. As much as possible, we want participants to attend every
single workshop organized to get the most of everything. Any of the workshop series can be
reorganized according to demand.
