Uses
For monitoring compliance and long term glucose level control in diabetic patients.
HbA1c is index of diabetic control.
Interferences:
Increased value of HbA1c has been observed due to following interfering agents:
When HbF is increased.
Lead, opiate or salicylate treatment.
Iron deficiency anemia.
Chronic renal failure with/without haemodialysis.
Increased serum triglycerides.
Decreased value of HbA1c has been observed due to following interfering agents:
Shortened life span of RBC(hemoglobinopathies, blood loss or following transfusion).
Pregnancy.
Ingestion of excessive Vitamin C or Vitamin E(>1gm/day).
