survive.
One of the vital facts concerning water is that even the blood in our body is made up
of water. Water helps in our digestion, hydration, fecation and overall body
detoxification. We should drink at least 3 litres of water a day. This can also prevent
us from having low blood pressure and dehydration.
Water is used for cleaning our body, washing clothes and cooking. It keeps our body,
house and surroundings clean. This is important for good personal hygiene.
Water is a useful means of transport too. For people who live on remote or small
islands, this might be the only means of transport. They have to travel by boat or
ferry to the mainland. Water is also a source of power. In the past, water was used to
work certain machines like turbines and steam engines.

Eat Your Way to Good Health
The saying, We are what we eat, holds a lot of truth. The food we eat can make us fit,
attractive or conversely, sick-looking.
We have to eat clean food and balanced meals. Balanced meals contain the right
proportion of meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and cereals. Raw food such as fish, other
seafood and meat should be well-cooked to kill the bacteria.
We should cut down on junk food and oily food. It is bad for our health and body.
This is because junk food such as potato chips has a lot of fat and salt. Moreover, it
hardly contains any vital nutrients or vitamins and minerals. Avoid eating too much
sugar too. Food that contains a lot of sugar can decay our teeth and can lead our body
to have disease such as diabetes.
We must never eat overnight food which is likely to have bacteria. If we eat leftovers
that are kept inside the fridge, they have to be heated properly to kill the germs.
Healthy eating is one of the ways to good health besides getting enough exercise and

Our class trip to the Sri Delima Children's Centre in Seremban was an event that
changed the way I looked at children with special needs. The time we spent with
them that Saturday taught me to appreciate people who have less yet give
more.
We arrived at the centre at nine in the morning. After meeting for past events the
children and the caregivers who ran the centre, we set to work painting the walls
and beautifying them. With the help of some of the less disabled children, we
painted the walls in bright pink and yellow.
Once the paint was dry, the more artistic students painted murals on them. Soon
colourful birds, cute rabbits and cuddly bears decorated the walls. It was hard work
but we enjoyed doing it.
Then we washed up and spent the rest of the morning getting to know the children.
Some of us played games with them while others sat at the tables and did craftwork
with them. Many of the children could work well with their hands. We had lots of
fun.
At noon, we set out the packed lunch that we had brought along. There was a variety
of food from fried rice and noodles to fried chicken, salad and desserts. While we
were having lunch, some of the students entertained us by playing guitars and
singing. The children joined in too. When they did not know the words, they
hummed along.
We gave out presents after lunch. Even though they were simple gifts, the children
seemed really happy to receive them. When this was over, we cleared up the room
and packed up.
Then it was time for us to leave. The children hugged and thanked us and we did the
same. As we said goodbye, we promised ourselves that we would return soon.
Our trip to the Sri Delima Children's Centre had taught us a lot. We learned about
the children's lives and about the home. Although the children and caregivers
thanked us and appreciated our visit, we felt more thankful for having had this
wonderful experience of bringing joy to children with special needs.

Suggested Answer
Recycling Pays
A lot of people are interested in recycling but how many of us actually do
it? Who would benefit from it?
Recycling reduces waste and saves the environment. It cuts down on the amount of
rubbish we throw away. Landfills are pilingup with rubbish and soon there will not
be any space left. So, what can we recycle? Well, almost everything that we use.
We use huge amounts of paper, and glass and metal containers every day. Glass and
metal containers do not disintegrate easily. A lot of money and resources are needed
to produce new paper as well as glass and metal containers.
Recycle old newspapers and books that we no longer need. Include other used paper,
glass bottles and jar and metal cans. Send them to recycling centres instead of
dumping them in the dustbin. When we send recyclable products to recycling
centres, we also get paid in cash.
Use vegetable and fruit peelings and garden waste like leaves to make compost.
Dump them into a container and cover them with soil so that they can rot to be used
for manure. We can then use the compost to fertilize our plants instead of buying
chemical fertilizers.
Cut down on the use of Styrofoam containers and plastic bags. Use
recyclable containers and cloth bags instead. When you wish to buy food from
restaurants, take along your own containers instead of asking them to pack the food
in plastic and Styrofoam containers.
Use vegetable and fruit peelings and garden waste like leaves to make compost.
Dump them into a container and cover them with soil so that they can rot to be used
for manure. We can then use the compost to fertilize our plants instead of buying
chemical fertilizers.
We cart also cut down on waste by reusing bottles, boxes and tins. Make your own
pencil holders and gift boxes. Glass jars can also be used as cheap tumblers and
glasses for serving drinks. Tins and larger glass jars can be reused for storing other
things such as biscuits and sweets. Be creative.
Let us all make recycling our duty. Help save the environment and start recycling
today

transmitted.
Writing Outline:
Your target audience would be the general public, so use formal language
Use the present tense to state facts
breedlayhatchfeed
Describe how the virus is transmitted
Describe prevention methods

Suggested answer
How Dangue is Transmitted
Dengue fever is a life-threatening disease that has become quite common in
Malaysia. It is spread by the Aedes mosquito. It transmits the virus through its bite.
Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean, stagnant water. They lay their eggs in any water
containers such as bottles, cans and basins that are left unattended for a few days.
The eggs hatch into larvae and grow into adult mosquitoes. These adult mosquitoes
thenfeed on human blood.
Not all Aedes mosquitoes transmit dengue fever. It is only those that carry the virus
that would spread the disease. When, the mosquito bites a person infected with
dengue fever, it swallows the infected blood. The dengue virus multiplies in the
mosquito's gut. When the mosquito bites a healthy person, the virus is then released
into this person, causing dengue fever.
Since dengue fever is life-threatening, we need to try our best to prevent it from
spreading. Make sure that there are no containers- left lying around in the garden
that may become inadvertent collection points'. In addition, keep all water containers
in the house covered so that mosquitoes would not have the opportunity to breed
inside your home. Keep your environment clean at all times. Let us all do our part in
preventing Aedes mosquitoes from breeding and spreading the disease.

rejuvenated. When people do not get enough sleep, they become confused, irritated

decisions properly. The body also becomes weaker and people fall sick easily. Hence,
we should get about seven to eight hours of sleep every night.
