information search attitudes in Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa Yogyakarta Library.

This thesis was to discuss the influence of information needs towards university students information
search attitudes in library of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University Yogyakarta. Needs and information
search attitudes have a close correlation so understanding about needs showed by information search
attitudes is needed. Meanwhile, the purpose of this study were (1) to find out the fulfillment of
students information needs, (2) to find out the implementation of information search attitudes
according to David Ellis in the library of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University Yogyakarta.

This study had one independent variable namely information needs and one dependent variable
namely information search attitudes. This study was a quantitative study. Techniques of collecting the
data were questionnare, documentation, observation, and interview. Meanwhile, technique of
analyzing the data used mean formula and simple linier regresion. The result of this study stated that,
(1) Level of Information needs in the library of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University Yogyakarta was
considered good with the average score (mean) was 3.04. (2) The implementation of students
information search attitudes in the library of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University Yogyakarta
obtained from research data was very good, with the average score was 3,05. (3) there was influence
of information needs towards the information search attitudes of students in the library of
Sarjanawiyata University Tamansiswa Yogyakarta, with the score of determination cooficient 6.04%.
Next, Suggestions given based on the result of the study are Library of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa
University Yogyakarta is expected tp give update both in facilities and the information sources
according to students needs. The library is required to inform regularly the latest collection in library
in order the students know each update information in library. Furthermore, the librarian skill is
needed to be improved so it can help to fulfill students need through communication as well as shown
information search attitudes. To make easier the students to fulfill willing information need, there
must be user education socialization. Besides that, there must be also socialization for information
search strategic that can make easier students to fulfill the information search such as information
search strategic via OPAC (Online Public Acces Catalog).
