Proposal for funding for internship project

General information about the project

The project would be an internship project done under Mahidol University

International College, Science Division in the field of Food Science with the supervision by

Dr. Manchuta Dangkulwanich. The Project would be done by two MUIDS 12th graders,

Pichayathida Siriwechdaruk (U5861105) and Pnotporn Jantarakolica (U5861115) and would

be supervised by the capstone mentor, Ms. Natamon Rittilertnapa.

Objective of the project

The aim of doing this internship project is to testify and to identify the type of

artificial coloring within Ceylon tea, an important ingredient of Thai milk tea, which is

popular among Thais. Other than identifying the dye; the information, including the possible

danger resulting from the consumption of the dye and the recommended /safe amount of

consumption per day of the dye would be studied afterwards.

Importance of the project

From doing this project, the knowledge regarding the food additive in daily lives

would be studied and the awareness of it would be raised. Moreover, lab skills and

experience, which would benefit the students would be acquired, opening more opportunities

and giving them more chances for universities and giving them skills that could be used later

on in their lives.

Materials and Procedures

The materials needed to be brought is the samples of Ceylon teas that stores usually

uses. There is a total of eight brands that is commonly used in the market: , 666,

, , , , , and . The procedure that would be used

within this project is either TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) or HPLC (High Performance
Liquid Chromatography). The overall cost of this project would be within the range of 2,000-

2,500 Baht.

Timeline

September: Students go meet and discuss the project with the advisor at MUIC. Within this

month, the project should be finalized and a rough working plan should be made.

October December: Students go to MUIC, and perform lab experiments as discussed with

the advisor. Within this three months, the project should be at least 80% done.

January February: Students finalize the project with the advisor at MUIC. The reflection of

the project should be finished within the end of February.

March: Students make presentation and present the capstone project to their capstone teacher

and mentor. The media for Capstone exhibition should be finished within this month.

April: Presentation within the capstone exhibition.

Due to the expenses needed to complete the project, we would like for your kindness

and provision of stipends, either full-funding or partial funding.
