NAME OF THE SCHEME Improvement, Augmentation and Extension of Water Supply

scheme Sunderbani Town

ESTIMATED COST: Rs. 19.91 Crore

AUTHORITY Government of Jammu and Kashmir through PHE Department,

Jammu.

LOCATION sunderbani town is located at a distance of 78 km from Jammu

(the winter capital of J&K State) and is situated on main road
Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch road. The geographical location is
between 73 and 74 E longitude and between 32 and 33 N
latitude. Its average height from sea level is 600 mts.

HISTORY AND NECESSITY The Sunderbani town has importance due to its location on main
road connecting border districts of Rajouri and Poonch and is
mainly known as Gateway to Rajouri and Poonch. Every official
or political tour to Rajouri and Poonch starts from Sunderbani
which also speaks the importance of Sunderbani.

During militancy a large number of families have migrated from

rural areas of Sunderbani, Kalakot, and Rajouri and even from
Reasi and permanently settled in Sunderbani and its periphery.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sunderbani has higher

literacy rate in comparison to other adjoining Tehsils, which is
also the main reason of migration of people to Sunderbani. Now
a days Sunderbani has become business hub for people of
adjoining Tehsils who travelled daily to Sunderbani in large
numbers in connection with purchase of their livelihoods.

Moreover, besides permanent stationing of defence forces and

security forces whose number is in thousands in the surrounding
of Sunderbani town. There is a private degree college, B.Ed
College, Govt. ITI, Govt. Resin factory, Sub District Hospital, Govt.
Offices, Pvt. Nursing homes, Sabzi Mandi and lot of tenants. In
 the past there are 7 number wards of Sunderbani town which has
now increased to 13 numbers and the town is in expanding order
day by day.

Keeping in view the above mentioned factors it has become

necessary to augment the water supply to Sunderbani town for
which the detailed project report has been framed for
improvement, augmentation and extension of WSS Sunderbani
town.

PROPOSALS: In order to provide potable and reliable drinking water facility to

the population of Sunderbani Town and its adjoining areas falling
under W.S.S. Sunderbani Town. It is proposed to construct 50000
GLNS capacity Rapid Sand filtration plant at Beri Pattan including
intake point. It is also proposed to construction of 4 No. Sump
tanks of capacity 1.00 Lac GLNS each at filtration plant site, Stage
Ist, Stage 2nd and CPS at Sodhra in addition to construction of 2
No. pump rooms at filtration plant & Stage Ist. Pump room at
Central Pumping station Sodhra is also proposed. 3No. OHT of
capacity 50000 GLNS each at Dharoot, Rah-Di-Keri and Phulwari
are also proposed. Two No. GSRs of capacity 50000 GLNS are
proposed at Rewarian Tala and Loharakot to provide safe
drinking water supply. Electric Sub station are also proposed at
various pumping station including deligate feeder. Machinery is
also proposed at pumping station to lift the water to GSRs and
QHTs. Pumping machinery is also proposed at old CPS
Sunderbani. Provision for boundary wall and Land compensation
is also proposed. It is also proposed to lift water from filtration
plant and various pumping stations through well designed Rising
Mains and water shall be supplied to the inhabitants of the area
through well designed network of distribution system.

TIME OF COMPLETION: The scheme shall be completed within two years provided the
funds and material are made available.
