Air separation process
Raw material for the air separation process is the ambient air with its main components oxy-
gen, nitrogen and argon. The basis of the air separation is the cryogenic rectification process in
which the compressed air is cooled down to approximately -180 C, partially liquefied and sepa-
rated into its components oxygen, nitrogen and argon by rectification.

The products are then available in gaseous and/or liquid form with high and highest purities.

Nat ural resourc es
In several regions, mostly of volcanic
origin, there are natural gas resources with
a reasonably high concentration of carbon
dioxide. The gas of such resources is puri-
fied, dried, concentrated and liquefied.

Ferm en t at ion proc esse s

Especially in the food industry naturally
produced carbon dioxide is preferred. The
processing of raw gas CO2 from fermenta-
tion processes such as the fermentation of
beer or alcohol are especially suitable.

In dust ry an d c hem ic al
proc esses
Carbon dioxide is released in large quan-
tities during combustion processes (industri-
al waste gases), hydrogen production (steam
reforming) or the synthesis gas production.
The CO2-crude gas can be processed and
provided for the food industry and other
sectors in high quality.

Applications of
We l d i ng an d i n e r t g a s e s
The application of carbon dioxide in the
welding technology is very popular. In this
regard, mixed gases become more and
more important. Besides the carbon dio-
xide purification and liquefaction plants,
gas mixing and filling plants are also part
of our scope of supply.

Beve r ag e i n d us tr y
With the application of carbon dioxide
in the food industry the quality and safe-
ty are of utmost importance, that means:
supply of odorless and tasteless CO2 with
high purity.
By the application of proven CRYOTEC -
system components the best quality is
guaranteed.
The analysis processes used by CRYOTEC
ensure the continuous monitoring and
documentation of the CO2-quality.

carbon dioxide

Pharm a an d m edic in e
For the application of carbon dioxide in
the clinical sector and in the pharmaceu-
tical industry there are special quality
requirements. Therefore, our plants are
equipped with special sensor and monito-
ring technology.

In dust rial applic at ion s

Carbon dioxide is applied in many
industrial sectors. Increasingly, carbon
dioxide is also gaining in importance in
the waste water and potable water tech-
nology.
Furthermore, carbon dioxide will be used
as refrigerant and extracting agent, e. g.
for the extraction of essential oils.

D ry ic e
Plants for the production of dry ice
from carbon dioxide are also part of the
product range. Dry ice in the form of
blocks or pellets will be used for cooling.
CO2-pellets increasingly gain in impor-
tance as a residue-free abrasive for a vari-
ety of industrial purification processes.

Fire ex t in guishin g
equipm en t
Carbon dioxide is an important part of
modern extinguishing systems and fire
extinguishers. Carbon dioxide is used
especially for fire fighting in electrical
control rooms.

18
Nat ural gas resourc es
The technology of CRYOTEC for the use
of natural gas makes it also possible to
exploit smaller natural gas resources. With
the CRYOTEC technology the natural gas
is purified, desulphurized, dried and lique-
fied (LNG), directly at the source for being
transported via portable tank to the site of
its further use.

Assoc iat ed gas

Worldwide, unimaginable energy resour-
ces are wasted by flaring the associated
gas. Therefore, CRYOTEC developed a
processing technology for associated
gases over the last years. Under the name
FlareRec we offer plants for the processing
of flare gases of different compositions.

Pipelin es
Natural gas is gaining more and more
in importance as a fuel. Not only for pas-
senger cars, but also for ships, trucks and
central heating plants (CHP). This requires
an extensive supply net of LNG and CNG.
Therefore, we develop plants which com-
press and liquefy natural gas supplied by
natural gas networks. The liquefied LNG
can be transported by truck, rail or ship.

Use of

Fue l
Natural gas as a fuel becomes more
and more popular. The natural gas is an
environmentally friendly fuel. In the future,
we have to rely more and more on clean
fuels to reduce environmental pollution,
especially in conurbation areas. Also for
the drive of ships natural gas gains in
importance.

Besides the liquefaction plants we also

offer plants for storage, refuelling and
filling of LNG.

LNG and CNG

Loc al supply
In many regions of the world, there are
infrastructural supply problems. But for
the development of rural areas, especially
in developing countries, the application of
LNG and LPG can be a useful addition to
renewable energies.
By application of natural gas-operated
central heating plants, electrical power
and hot water can be obtained. This provi-
des the possibility of a tailor-made energy
supply that increases the quality of life of
the inhabitants and the progress of the
regional development. Besides the delive-
ry of the required equipment our team is
able to offer the development of economic
supply concepts and financing models in
close cooperation with our customers.

Chem ic al in dust ry
In the chemical industry methane is used
as a basic material for the production of
basic chemicals like methanol or for the
generation of synthetic substances.
Mostly, the supply of the chemical compa-
nies is performed by natural gas pipe nets.
However, due to the increasing number of
local natural gas fields that cannot be con-
nected to pipelines because of economic
reasons, the natural gas is liquefied and
transported to the customer by liquid gas
tank trucks. We offer our customers all-
in-one concepts for the use of LNG. This
includes the industrial use of the cooling
capacity during the vaporization of LNG.

G as purif ic at ion
In many production processes, gas
mixtures and waste gases are generated
that have to be purified. Sometimes, a re-
covery of several components is reaso-
nable from an economic point of view. For
this purpose we develop individual solu-
tions for our customers. By using simula-
tion programs, we develop and optimize
special processes.

B iogas proc essin g

In the future, an important component
of the energy supply will be the applicati-
on of biogas. In order to supply the biogas
by pipe nets to the consumers the proces-
sing of biogas for reaching natural gas
quality is required. Biogas has a content
of methane of only 55 60 percent. The
content of methane has to be increased
accordingly and at the same time impu-
rifying ingredients like hydrogen sulfide,
carbon dioxide and others have to be
removed.
For this, CRYOTEC offers customized
solutions, too.

Han dlin g of spec ial ga se s

In many industrial sectors special
gases with high purity at a high plant
safety are required. We develop suitable
economic solutions for our customers.
Sometimes innovative manufacturing
technologies are necessary for such spe-
cial applications.
Because of our experienced staff and
in cooperation with universities and
research institutions, we are the ideal
partner for difficult applications.
