MBE3106: Advanced Thermofluids

Mini-Projects

Aims: to promote the creativity and the spirit of innovativeness, and simulate students to put the
knowledge to practical applications.

Work: to conduct literature survey of the topic chosen, to point out thermal and fluid dynamics
theories that may be involved with, and to provide your thoughts about topic.

The class will be divided into 5 groups, each group having 4-5 students. Each student needs to
submit a final report individually to Dr. Wenzhong Zhous mail-box (MBE43), although it is a
group work.

Final report needs to be at least 8 pages (A4 size, font 10, single space) using MS Word with
descriptions, equations, diagrams and references.

This part will account for 30% of your final marks.

Topics:
1) Heat exchangers and their applications;
2) Internal incompressible viscous flow;
3) External incompressible viscous flow;
4) Two-phase flow and heat transfer;
5) Nuclear reactor safety systems.

Your work can address wholly or partially one of the topics mentioned above. The topics will be
on a first-come-first-served basis, i.e., if your group is formed earlier, then your group will have
the priority to choose the topic you prefer, and so on. So, please form your groups and let me
know asap.

Deadline for final report submission: 27th November 2017, Monday.
