Part II Questions (page 5-25):

14. Used the pooled data from the Canvas site for the following calculations:
a. What percentage of the plants with a CC genotype had the expected
phenotype?

54.17%

b. What percentage of the plants with a Cc genotype had the expected

phenotype?

45.45%
c. What percentage of the plants with a cc genotype had the expected
phenotype?

68.42%

15. Why do you think the percentages that you calculated in #14 above are less
than 100%?

Due to the subjectivity of classifying a hypocotyl as short, medium, or tall, the

results will vary depending on who is classifying, and even what angle it was
viewed at (some plants grew horizontally or diagonally, which may have had an
effect on their perceived or actual length). In addition, as similarly seen in human
height, length of a hypocotyl may depend on environmental factors, and beyond
this, length may be represented on a continuous spectrum instead of purely
segregated into three distinct categories of short medium and tall.
