Work function

Definition The mimimum energy required to remove an electron from

a metallic surface

Unit = eV

Concept of Light Quantisation

Photons are streams of particles that carry quantized electromagnetic

radiation

E = hf E = radiation energy

H = Planck constant

f = frequency

The photoelectric equation

hf = KEmax + Einsteins equation for photoelectric effect

= hf0 f0 = threshold frequency

KEmax = h(f - f0) When KEmax = 0, f becomes f0
