HAU increases TOF by 3%

AU will impose a 3% increase or an of 2012 or the Enhanced Policies, Guidelines and

additional 33.75 pesos on the current
tuition fee rate of 1,056 pesos per unit.
Aside from tuition fee, miscellaneous
fees will also rise at an average of 3% or an added 158.7
pesos to the previous amount of 5,006 pesos. Laboratory
fees are also expected to increase by an average of 3%
based on their respective laboratory categories.
For the College of Nursing and Allied Medical
Sciences, fees for professional subjects will be raised
by nearly 3% or an added 50.75 pesos per unit to the
previous professional subject rate of 1,590 pesos per
unit.
VP for Student Services and Affairs Robert Tantingco
clarified that increases this school year are in the
vicinity of 3% following CHEds recommendation to
consider the current regional inflation rate.
Originally, HAU proposed a 6% increase in tuition fee
and a 5% increase in miscellaneous fees for A.Y. 2017-
2018.
CHEd Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 3, series
Procedures Governing Increases in Tuition and Other
School Fees, Introduction of New Fees, and for Other
Purposes, states that regional inflation rate, financial
standing of the institution, and financial capacity of the
general studentry are among the factors they consider
before allowing an increase.
Even so, ANAKBAYAN-HAU commented that
the price of education continues to rise while parents
who are part of the regional labor force experience no
substantial increase in their salaries.
An increase is still an increase. It (TOFI) will only
be an additional burden to students and their families,
ANAKBAYAN-HAU Spokesperson Rein Salvador said
when asked about the recent update on tuition and
other fees increase.
Salvador also added that HAUs decision to lower
the percentage of increase from 6% to 3% is a clear
manifestation that even HAU and CHED admit that the
people cannot keep up with the rising cost of education
and other basic needs.
