Cassettes
This unit is suitable for playing normal tapes, but high and metal position
tapes will not be played to their full potential. To stop play
Press [ / STOP/EJECT]. (Unit is switched off.)

Recording
You can record radio broadcasts or CDs.
Before recording To stop recording
This unit is suitable for recording normal tapes, but it cannot record Press [ / STOP/EJECT ]. (The CD does not stop.)

Cover the hole with adhesive tape.

The actual effect depends on the source played.
Tapes exceeding 100 minutes are thin and can break or get caught in
the mechanism.
Tape slack can get caught up in the mechanism and should be taken
up before the tape is played.
Endless tapes can get caught up in the decks moving parts if used
incorrectly.
Sound quality may be effected and the cassette tape may become
stuck if you do not adhere to the following.
- Do not use other stickers not included with the cassette tape.
- Place stickers on the cassette tape only as indicated.

Sound quality Maintenance


You can choose one of four types of sound quality. If the surfaces are dirty
XBS: Adds punch to rock
CLEAR: Clarifies higher sounds To clean this unit, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
SOFT: For background music If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth dipped in a soap-and

Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit.
Before using chemically treated cloth, read the instructions that came

Troubleshooting guide
Before requesting service, make the below checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not
solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions.
Reference pages are shown as black circled numbers 4 .

Common Problems
The unit doesnt work on batteries. Is the AC mains lead connected to the unit? Disconnect when using batteries.
Have the batteries been inserted correctly? Check that the poles (+ and ) are correctly aligned. 4
UO1 is displayed. Replace the batteries or use household AC power.

CD
ERROR is displayed. Indicates an incorrect operation. Read the instructions.
Play doesnt start or display is incorrect. Clean the CD.
Wait for an hour for condensation to dry, then try again.
Make sure the label is facing up.
Replace the CD if it is scratched, warped, or irregularly shaped.
RX-D29 only
Play of a multi-session disc may not be possible if there is a blank data segment between sessions.
RX-D29 only
If there is large JPEG data etc. within a MP3 file, sound may become muted and play may not possible.
RX-D29 only
If you try playing a CD that contains MP3 format data and normal audio data (CD-DA), output from
one of the above may become silent, and play may not be possible.
CD-RW cannot be read. The disc was incompletely formatted. Use the recording equipment to fully format the disc before recording.

Cassette
Recording not possible. Has the cassettes tab been removed? Cover the hole with adhesive tape. 9
Poor sound quality. Clean the heads. 11
