The Flexoret Vll is o fully-outomotic twin-le;i reflex comero. Twelve pictures
6X6 cm or 16 pictures 4,5X6 cm in size con be mode on 82 roll filnr, or 3t
up to 34 pictures 24X36 mm or 43 to 46 pictures 24x24 mm in size on
35 cin6 film.

The focussing is corried out by the movement of o focussing lever within the
limits of obout 1100 from 1 m in infinity (-), the two lenses being moved
simultoneously. ln order to enoble speedy focussing odjustment the focussing
lever is provided with cotches for neor medium ond infinite ("") distonce.
These cotches con be dispensed with ond the lever moves then continuously.
The comero is equipped with o depth-of-focus scole engroved on the focussing
lever proper. To focilitote the focussing o mognifier is used which con be
tilted over the ground-gloss. The imoge seen on the ground gloss screen
is not reversed verticolly ond it is perfectly bright. The snopshots con olso
be token from eye level by odjusting the viewfinder to eye-level shots
(direct vision -D. V. finder). This method is used to odvontoge when toking
ropid sporting snopshots. The toking lens proper is o BELAR four-gloss
onostigmot f 3.5, F:80 mm, which olso is used os o viewing lens, Both
lenses ore provided with ontireflection cooting.

The mounts of the two lenses ore fitted with B 36 boyonet tock for ottoching
the filters ond odopter lenses. A sunshode con be fixed to the boyonet lock
B 40 on the outer mount of the toking lens.

The Prestor shutter is o five-lomelloe centrol-type shutter with outomotic

outomotic ond is effected simultoneously with film rewinding. However, the.
shutter con be cocked ond releosed orbitrorily even without simultoneous film
rewinding.

The comero shutter releose is of o push-button type, with threoded operture

for flexible wire releose. lt is interlocked with the rewinding mechonism. ln
oddition, on the comero body there is o device securing the comero releose
ogoinst undesiroble releosing of the shutter.

The film rewinding is corried out by the rewind knob, fitted on the right-hond
side of the instrument. When rewinding the beginning of the film up to the
first exposure ond the film end ofter the twelfth exposure, the knob con be
turned continuously. From the first exposure up to the twelfth the rewind knob
is outomoticolly locked in position ofter the film length corresponding to one
picture hos been rewound. Simultoneously the shutter is cocked ond the
comero releose releosed. By its depressing up to the stop when the negotive
is being exposed, the rewind knob is releosed onew ond it con be turned
ogoin. As long os the respective film length hos not been rewound, no expo-
sure con be mode. Hence, the film (negotive) connot be odvonced without
being exposed, ond no further exposure con be mode on the negotive which hos
olreody been exposed.

13. Further exposures

The locking of the rewind knob is outomoticolly releosed ofter the exposure

by the counter. Since the shutter is cocked simultoneously with the rewinding
oi the film, the lotter procedure hos to be performed directly before toking
the shot.

lf using o 35 mm film or if moking pictures 4.5X6 cm in size on o roll film,

Hence, the moin counter indicotes individuol exposure units. Tens of exposures

ln the window of the odditionel counter the number 1, 2,3 or 4 oppeors,

If, for instonce, the numbef ,,2" is shown in the window of the oddiiionol

17. Depth of f ocus

. Every lens reproduces shorply not only the objects locoted in the focussing
plone, but olso such objects which ore situoted in front of ond behind this
plone. This phenomenon is colled ,,Depth of focus"; it is the greoter the more
:
the lens is stopped down. ,J
The Flexoret Vll comero is equipped with o depht-of-focus scole engroved
on the focussing lever proper (26). This is very convenient since it is possible
- olter hoving focussed - to reod off immediotely the two distonces within ;
which the photogrophed objects will be shorply reproduced ot opplicotion j

of the chosen stopping down. The scole is counted for the greotest unshorp-
ness (the so-colled ronge of confusion) 0.05 mm.
.
Exomple: After hoving focussed, the notch of the focussing lever foces the
number ,,2" of the metre-distonce scole (27). lf, {or instonce, the lens is
stopped down to the stop number,,8", the distonce of opprox. 1,8 to 2.3 m
is reod in the distonce scole opposite the two numbers ,,8" of the depth-of-
focus scole on either side of the centre notch.

lf it is required to determine the depth of focus of the employed lens, more

exoctly, the following toble, counted for the greotest unshorpness of 0.05 mm,
hcs to be consulted:

Toble showing the depth of field when using o Belor f 3.5, F : 80 mm lens,
the distqnce scole being indicoted in metres.

of the loqded lilm

Below the toble of filter foctors the bock lid of the csmero incorporotes
on indicotor of the type cnd sensitivity of the film with which the camero is I

looded. On the indicotor externol ring there ore dots of different colours with
iriongulor morks. For instonce, the two red dots indicote inverse coiour .$
moteriol, the red dot ond the block dot signify negotive colour moteriol,
whilst the two block dots designote the block-ond-white negotive moteriol. I
The two scoles, provided on the inner block ring of the indicotor referred to, t
indicote the sensitivity of the moteriol in tenths of DIN ond in ASA volues. I
In the middle there is o window where the numbers 60 or 35, indicoting the

tlre film sensitivity number foces the triongulor mork.

20. Toble of the elongotion foctors when using MEOPTA fitters

lf o correction colour filter is used, the exposure time must usuolly be extended.
In order to focilitote the chonge of the exposure time when opplying correction
filters, o toble of elongotion foctors is provided on the comero bock lid; the
toble indicotes how mony times the normol exposure time hos to be elongoted.
The Toble is compiled for the following types of films:

Ortho : orthochromotic film

Ortho-pon = normol ponchromotic film
Pon : ponchromotic film with increosed sensitivity red colour
For every type of moteriol there ore two volues specified in the Toble. The
first coiumn indicotes the elongotion foctor proper by which the normol
exposure time hos to be multiplied whilst in the second column there ore
ihe numbers which hove to be subtrocted from the,,light volues", holding
good for exposure without opplicotion of filters.

For exomple: An Ortho pon film ond o GGR 1 (yellow-green) filter is used;
the exposure time determined by on exposure meter or indicoted in on
exposure-time chort is rfzs sec., with the lens stopped down to ,,8". Looking
up the GGR 1 filter ond the Ortho-pon film in the chort, the elongotion

diophrogm operture hos to be odjusted to 5,6 (insteod of to,,8"). lf it is
worked with light volues, it will be oscertoined thot for the given cose, without
cpplicotion of o filter, the light volue 13 is opplicoble; when using o GGR 1
filter the number t hqs to be subtrocted from this volue, i. e. the light volue :-
hos to be odjusted to tZ.
i
I
lf o volue of 0.5 - 1.5 - 2,5 or 3.5 hos to be subtrocted occording to the
indicotions in the chort, the lever must be set to the intermediote volue r
i, e. to the tooth followed by o whole (integer) number.

21. Hondling i

A photogrophic cqmero is on opporotus which must be hondled with ottention &

ond core. Before looding o new film it is recommended to dust the comero I

t
interior with o hoir brush. The lenses hove to be cleoned (not too often) T
with o cleon, woshed, soft piece of cloth. The lens surfoces ore freed from
dust with o soft hoir brush. Shocks, humidity ond chemicol vopours hove on
odverse influence on the comero.
