AnewMergeoptionintheLayerManagerenablesyoutoselectoneormorelayersfromthelayerlist

Xref enhancements
ThedisplayoflinetypesandlayersfromexternallyreferenceddrawingsisenhancedinAutoCAD2014.Xref
linetypesarenotdisplayedinthelinetypelistoftheribbonorPropertiespalette.Xreflayersarestill

YoucaneasilychangetheattachmenttypeforanxrefbetweenAttachandOverlaybydoubleclickingin

YoucanselectpointcloudfilesusingtheAttachtoolfromthePointCloudpaneloftheInsertribbontab.

Afterapointcloudisattached,thecontextualtabthatisdisplayedwhenthepointcloudisselectedis
enhancedtomakeiteasiertoworkwithpointclouds.Youcannowchangethestylization(colorization)
ofpointcloudstocolorizethepointcloudbasedonscancolors(colorscapturedbythescanner),object
color(colorassignedtoobject),normal(colorizebasedonthenormaldirectionofpoint),orintensity
(reflectivityvalueofpoints).Ifnormalorintensitydatawasnotcapturedwiththescan,those
stylizationsaredisabled.Inaddition,moreclippingtoolsaredisplayedontheribbontomakeiteasierto
clipthepointcloud.

AutoUpdateisturnedoffbydefault,preventingthepointcloudsfromautomaticallyupdatingeverytime
theviewischangedandimprovingperformancewhenworkingwithlargepointclouds.Youcanusethe
refreshbuttontomanuallyupdatethepointclouds.

Geographic location
SupportforgeographiclocationshasbeensignificantlyenhancedinAutoCAD2014.Itincludesthesame
CoordinateSystemLibraryasAutodeskAutoCADMap3DsoftwareandtheLiveMapDatatool.

Therearemanybenefitstodefiningalocationinyourdrawing.Whenyouimportgeolocateddataintoa
geolocateddrawing,AutoCADtransformsthedatabasedonthedrawing'sgeographiclocation.Youcan
seeyourdesignwithinthecontextofitslocationandifyourenderthemodel,itwillhavethecorrect
sunangle.IfyouexportthedrawingtoamapservicelikeGoogleEarth,itwillautomaticallydisplayat
thecorrectlocation.Whenyouinsertgeoreferencedimagesorblocksintoyourgeoreferenceddrawing,
theyareautomaticallyplacedinthecorrectlocationandatthecorrectscale.Forexample,imaginelarge
projectsthathavemultipledesignersworkingseparatelyonthesamedesign,suchasahousingproject.
Ifeachdesignerusesthesamecoordinatesystem,allthedrawingswillinsertattheirappropriate
locationswhencombinedintoasinglefile.Youcanmarkspecificpointofinterestinyourdrawings,
knowingthatthosepointscorrespondtologicalgeographiclocations.And,ifyouhaveaGPSdevice
enabledonyourcomputer,youcanseeyourcurrentpositioninthedrawingandyoucanevenmark
positionsasyouwalkaround.Forexample,landscapearchitectscanvisitthesiteandtakenotesabout
thesurroundingsbymarkingthemonthedrawing.

ChoosetosetthelocationfromamaporbyselectingaKMLorKMZfile.

LiveMapDataisautomaticallyavailablefromAutoCAD2014whenyouaresignedintoyourAutodesk
account.Whenspecifyingageographiclocationfromamap,youcansearchforanaddressorlatitude
andlongitude.Ifmultipleresultsarefound,youcanclickoneachoneintheresultslisttoviewthe
correspondingmap,andyoucandisplaythemapasroadoraerialdata.

Whenyoufindthecorrectlocation,youcandropamarkertoselectit.Apinisplacedonthemapand
correspondinglatitude,longitude,andtimezoneareautomaticallyapplied.Youcanmovethepin,

CollapsetheResultspaneltomaximizethemap.Youcandisplayastandardroadmaporautomatically
displaythebestmapstyleasyouzoom.

AutoCAD2014assignsWorldMercatorasthedefaultcoordinatesystem,oryoucanchoosefromthelist
offilteredcoordinatesystems.Thecoordinatesystemlistisfilteredbasedontheenteredlatitudeand

longitude.Soitonlydisplaysthecoordinatesystemsrelevanttothespecifiedarea.Togetmoreaccurate
results,itisalwaysrecommendedtousealocalcoordinatesystemratherthanaglobalcoordinate

system.Localcoordinatesystemsareconsideredmoreaccuratebecausetheyalignmorecloselywith
theearth'ssurfaceinthatlocality,incomparisontoanearthcentricdatum,forexample,World
Mercator.Often,morethanonecoordinatesystemmaycoverthelocationyouareinterestedin.Asa
generalruleofthumb,thecoordinatesystemwithitsdatumclosesttothatlocationisconsideredtobe
themostaccurate.

Thecoordinatesystemdefinesthescaleofthemap.Thecurrentdrawingunitisautomaticallydisplayed
intheGeographicLocationdialogbox,oryoucanchoosefromalistofstandardunits.Theinsertedmap
isautomaticallyscaledappropriatelyforthespecifieddrawingunits.

LiveMapDataisonlyavailablewhenyouareworkingonline.Ifyouareworkingofflineorchoosenotto
useLiveMapData,nomapisdisplayed,butyoucanmanuallyenterthelatitudeandlongitudeby
unlockingthemforediting.Afteryouacceptthelatitudeandlongitude,therelevantcoordinatesystems
areautomaticallyfiltered.

IfyouchoosenottouseLiveMapData,itwillnolongerbeavailabletoyouinthecurrentsessionof
AutoCAD.IfyoucloseAutoCADandbeginanewsession,youcan,onceagain,choosetouseLiveMapData.

Whenamapisappliedtoadrawingitisalwaysdisplayedbelowdrawinggeometry.Whetheryouapply
