To whom it may concern:

Glennville Elementary School prides itself in doing Whatever it Takes to ensure

teaching and learning take place among our student body. Student achievement is the base of our
commitment to our students at G.E.S. The media program wishes to also help in meeting the
needs of the students and staff at our school. However, the achieve all of the goals that are set for
the media program, some changes need to take place. When examining Judy Serritellas
Exemplary Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric, I have discovered that our media
program scores Exemplary on six of the twenty-one standards; regarding resources, technology
management, full-time employment of staff, square footage requirements, weeding, and our
System Media Contact Person (SMCP) support. Our media program received a score of
Proficient regarding the following standards: information literacy, collaborative planning,
library staff and resources, technology integration, flexible scheduling, the library media policy,
and staff development.
What is concerning is that the Glennville Elementary School Media Program also scored
Basic on six of the twenty-one standards. The improvement of the school media program is
imperative to the student growth and achievement within our school. For example, with the
employment of a part-time assistant, I would have more time to devote towards collaboration
with teachers. During planning period and grade level meetings, I could plan activities to enrich
the students minds, of course connecting Common Core standards to activities that are planned.
I would also have the opportunity to learn about the students and their needs; regarding their
diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests. With this information, the teacher and I could
collaborate together to form projects that students can relate to, increasing student interest and
achievement.
Lastly, I firmly believe that cable should be purchased to properly provide streaming to
our classrooms. I am aware that a new school is expected to be built in the near future, however
there are students who are going through our program currently who could benefit from the
streaming right now. During homeroom, while the children are eating their breakfast, the
students could be watching instructional videos that have been streamed to increase their
knowledge on particular content from their classes. I feel like this would make good use of the
students and educators time, and would also set the students mind up for the educational day
ahead.

It is imperative that we make the necessary changes to our school media program to
better meet the needs of the staff and students. With the changes discussed above, I believe that
student achievement and the meeting of the media center goals can take place.

Thank you for your time and encouragement,

Megan Anderson
