ROLE DESCRIPTION

Post: e-learning Project Manager

Reports to: Senior e-learning Project Manager

Accountable to: Head of e-Learning

Job Purpose:
To identify, develop, commission and manage SCIEs e-learning and web based
projects; develop and maintain partnerships with all stakeholders, advisors and
contractors, and ensure the delivery of quality products and services.

Main Duties

1. Assess SCIEs existing projects and identify priority areas for e-learning
development.

2. Manage the initiation, development and dissemination and storage


of SCIE and Centre for Excellence and Outcomes (C4EO) e-learning and
web based products with internal and external teams, and control budgets
to ensure value for money

3. Work collaboratively with other staff in SCIE and in C4EO either as


a contributor to projects, or in an advisory capacity to their work

4. Adhere to international standards of delivery and accessibility, and


apply stringent quality assurance processes on the developmental process.

5. Manage the implementation of sound learning design and


pedagogical practices to the development of resources

6. Be familiar with recognised web usability and accessibility


standards, and ensure they are adhered to by all SCIE e-learning products.

7. Be familiar with recognised e-learning technical standards, and


ensure they are adhered to where appropriate by SCIEs e-learning
products.

8. Evaluate the effectiveness of our e-learning products on their


audiences

9. Promote SCIEs e-learning products and services, in collaboration with


SCIEs Communications Team.

10. Collaborate in the development of funding bids

11. Other tasks as may be required, commensurate with the level of the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Aptitude / Abilities / Skills
The ability to translate SCIEs and others knowledge into learning material
An understanding of the principles and practice of user-centred design/product development
Excellent communications skills to include the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of
technical and non-technical staff, the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical
audiences and to engage others in e-learning
Good team worker with a collaborative approach to work
Ability to manage and prioritise a complex and varied workload
Critical skills to review and evaluate e-learning products and services
Education / Knowledge
Educated to degree level, or equivalent, plus appropriate vocational training
Knowledge of the higher education and/or further education sector
Understanding of technical ICT aspects of e-learning
Understanding of pedagogical, technical and instructional design aspects of e-learning
Experience
Minimum 3 years demonstrable experience of e-learning development and project management
work (including understanding of Prince 2 or equivalent)
Client focused and a track record of delivering e-learning materials and support services to educators
and learners
Experience of delegating to and supervising contractors or developers
Experience of accessibility issues in the spreading of knowledge to a wide range of users, e.g.
carers, people with learning disabilities, people who use services and providers

Education / Knowledge
Knowledge of the social care sector
Knowledge of corporate or work-based training sector
Experience
Experience of similar roles in the not for profit sector
Experience of working with end users, i.e. learners, on the development of e-learning products
