1. a) Intermolecular forces are forces that exist between molecules.
That holds molecules together. they determine the physical properties
of molecules like their boiling point, melting point, density, and enthalpies of fusion and vaporization. B) dipole-dipole forces - These forces occur when the partially positively charged part of a molecule interacts with the partially negatively charged part of the neighboring molecule. Dipole means the molecules has two poles which is negetive and positive poles and the poles are separated from each other. Postive attracts negetive. positve pole of a molecules will attract the negative poles of a neighbouring molecule. C) london forces are formed between nonpolar molecules which has elcectron orbiting the molecules. So at one point the orbiting electrons has net negetive partial charge and the neighbouring molecules electrons are moving on the opposite direction so theyll have a net positive partial charge. So these molecules will attract each other and form the londan forces that hold the molecules together.
2. the strongest intermolecular bonds are the hidrogen bonds which
happens when hidrogen in a molecule is bonded with either Fluorin, Oxigen or nitrogen. The weakest are the london forces between nonpolar molecules and in between are the dipole-dipole forces that bond two molecules.
A) cl2 is a nonpolar molecules so they can only bond to each other
with the london forces which is the weakest bond. B) So2 is a dipole molecule so it will have a strong bond with other molecules C) CO is a dipole molecule so it has the dipole-dipole forces D) Ch2cl2 is a dipole molecule dipole-dipole forces E) HF - hidrogen bonds the strongest bond F) CH2-O-CH2 - polar molecule dipole-dipole forces 3. a) the volume of participating molecules and the intermolecular forces of attraction.
