STRATEGIES TO REACH GOAL;
To modify the learning environment
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
1. To set up a safe, calm area in the classroom for Jayden. Use a divider and setup a visual timetable for
Jayden.
2. Have a set time for Jayden to access the safe area.
3. Set up a system where Jayden can self-select time out to calm down; time out card
4. Watch Jaydens body language closely; look at his eyes, facial expressions closely they can be indicators
for when he is getting would up
5. Try to do activities that require more attention in the morning; optimal learning environment
6. Differentiate task to challenge Jayden. Adjust task size, time allotted to completed or give alternative
7. Use of ear defenders to block out distracting noises Use of noise thermometer
8. Provide objects to chew on
9. Weighted vest? Use hokki stool
To assist Jayden in managing the classroom routine
CLASSROOM ROUTINE
1. Have a set structure M,that is displayed by visuals; daily timetable morning routine/afternoon routine
first/then
2. Give Jayden allocated jobs
3. Negotiate rewards for Jayden to motivate him to engage in work; pokemon/class dojos
ATTENTIONAL/SOCIAL EMOTIONAL
4. Continue to use a visual timetable so that Jayden knows what is happening and to provide warning for
when a change is going to occur. Involve Jayden in the decision making of his choice activity after a non
preferred activity. The more control he has the more likely he will complete the tasks. Always place a
motivating activity directly after a more challenging task.
5. Continue to use visual timers such as a quadrant timer or a wait card so Jayden has a clear expectation
of when the task will finish.
6. Teach Jayden appropriate finishing off a task to reduce the need to jump from one activity to another.
Set up a pack away routine such as putting an item in a finished box.

To assist Jayden in managing his sensory needs

SENSORY
MOVEMENT (VESTIBULAR PROCESSING)
Try to have regular movement breaks during sitting tasks (approx. every 20mins
Opportunities that could be offered to Jayden to meet his sensory needs for movement include:
1. Therabands around chair legs
2. Having a swing
3. Giving him regular opportunities to walk play outside
4. Animal walks from one activity to another
5. Jump on a trampoline
NOTE; Movement that has a rhythmical component (such as a swing) and done at a slower pace
can help to organize and calm the nervous system. Movement that is quick with more variation
in intensity can be alerting
TOUCH PROCESSING
Provide opportunities through the day where Jayden has access to appropriate deep pressure activities
to decrease the need to play rough and seek touch through moving into others space
1. Tight hugs/squeezes or pillow sandwich (gently squish Joshua between a couple of pillows/bean
bags in a fun way)
2. Use the bean bag to sit on or roll under. A bean bag is a natural hug for the body and can help calm.
3. Sensory turtle
4. Fidget toys
5. Sitting in a squish box to read or watch TV. You could even place a heavy blanket over the top of him
in his position.
When you see Jayden starting to build up frustration or anxiety direct him to the bean bag. Praise Jayden
for any attempt to go to the bean bag himself to calm down.
