I see the kitchen more as a vast series of modules / cupboards, so my approach is to treat
kitchens as surfaces like a painting a large brush stroke, to bring some energy, a vista,
to the banal large surface that faces the other spaces in a home. For Rastelli, I opted for
sculptural forms and a sensual minimalism. The concept revolves around an open pedestal
island. The tapered curve of the island invites friends and family to pull up a seat.

Design, for me is a process

of understanding the clients
needs and the qualities of
an existing building. When
creating new buildings,
I survey the location to
get inspiration.

Which is your favourite project?

My favourite project is my own
home where I extended the level
of control and also project managed
the works, sourced the labour and
all the materials. In terms of interior
design, the house was decorated
and furnished with my favourite
pieces. The house showcases my
growing love for exquisite finishes

Architect speak

What has been your biggest achievement

so far?
The most noteworthy project is the
multi-award winning house in Sonning.
The project involved the demolition
of an existing house to create a new-
build contemporary house set within a
breathtaking 12 acre site adjacent to the river
Thames. The project includes a stunning
private entrance courtyard, garages for
many cars, an outdoor swimming pool, out
buildings and a tennis court.

Describe your unique style?

At Gregory Phillips Architects we look
holistically at what our clients need for
their lifestyle. I look to find practical
and poetic solutions to design beautiful
projects. I normally define spaces by using
lighting, rugs, screens or special finishes to
give definition to an area.
