Frida Kahlo: An expressional painter but handicapped woman

Although Frida Kahlo became an international renowned painter, she struggled with a miserable disability for the
most part of her life.
Frida Kahlo transformed the conventional form of art thanks to her unique style of contrasting her artworks with
the Mexican popular culture and her melancholy life. This means that she uses more sad parts of her life to express her
feelings of frustration and longing as well as combine it with Mexican aspects such as Mexican dress and colors. A great
example of her exclusive style is her master painting called "LAS DOS FRIDAS", which led her to success in the artistic world.
However, not everything was an Eden for her because before becoming a famous painter, she experimented a
terrible event that changed her life completely.
While traveling in a bus, she had an awful car accident. This accident had caused Frida a pelvis perforation, a spine
fracture, and several ribs. As a result of those wounds, she was unable to make any movement. The example of this tragic
event, she captured this mishap in one of her most important paintings called El Camion. Facing her new body was hard
for her because she was forced to change her blissful life into the darkest one. The days and years passed and her
hopelessness became bigger because she felt useless and weak. Its important to remember that she considered killing
herself in one occasion of her life thanks to her disability. Nevertheless, one day she decided not give up and with the
support of her husband and friends, she began to notice great artistic ability hidden behind her ailment.
The moment she realized her potential, she started her career as a painter. Her path to artistic success had a
hardness work with her mentor and husband Diego Rivera. This man persuaded her to express her feelings of pain and
frustration through the paintings, and with the time she had the freedom to transmit her emotion in her artworks without
the feeling of inferiority that she loaded for a long time. A great example of this expression was her painting called La
Columna Rota". In addition, her relationship with Diego was part of her inspiration to create new works of art since in many
of her paintings portrays her accountable love for Rivera.
Thanks to her persistence, the unconditional help of her husband and her continuous work as a painter, her artistic
works began to get worldwide recognition. The feeling of satisfaction for her artistic job transformed her into a new woman
with new life expectations. Becoming a famous painter around the world was her first and most important achievement in
her career as an artist. An Important evidence of this international appreciation was her influence in the art and feminism
world as an icon to follow until these days. In that moment, Frida Kahlo noticed that she had transformed her misery into an
opportunity.
In conclusion, despite her transition as an international notorious painter, Frida Kahlo battled with a measly
impairment great part of her life.
