SPECIAL THEME
THE NEW GENERATION OF EUROCODES
The Portuguese Steelwork Association has turned 20. In this edition of Metlica a
brief summary of the two decades of CMM is made, highlighting the evolution of
associate members and the main activities developed in this period. In this context
it is also presented the current situation of the Portuguese steel construction sector.
Throughout these years CMM has sought to maintain a constant promotion and
dissemination of the sector and its members, also impelling the sharing of knowledge
and training that will bring important benefits to the different actors in the sector.
The collection of articles of opinion of Metlica has again sequence with more
3very interesting articles. The opinion article of Prof. Vitor Murtinho, dedicated to
architecture with steel and composite construction, speaks about the Eiffel Tower,
an icon of the steel structures. The application of welding on cold-formed structural
elements is the subject of another article by Prof. Altino Loureiro. And Prof. Jos
Nuno Lopes Guilherme Silva presents the application of steel space lattice systems in different
Director
works in Brazil.
In 2017, the twentieth anniversary of CMM coincides with its main event, the
eleventh Conference on Steel and Composite Construction. The main speakers and
themes for submitting papers are already defined. It is expected to be once again
the perfect forum for sharing knowledge and experience in the Steel and Composite
Construction sector.
