StudentsattendingaKannadaclassorganisedbytheVolunteerServicesOrganisation(VSO)atManipalUniversityinManipal.
Asmanyas120students,includingafewforeignstudents,aretakingpartina10hourSpokenKannadasessionbeingorganisedbyVolunteer
ServicesOrganisation(VSO)ofManipalUniversity.
Studentsfrommostoftheconstituentinstitutionsoftheuniversityhaveenrolledintheshortcourse,whichisgoodenoughforastart,
accordingtojointcoordinatorB.Koteshwar.
The10hourcontactprogramme,whichwilltakeplacethriceaweek,beganonAugust19intheInteractClassroomcomplex,KMC,Manipal.
TheclasseswereinauguratedbyC.MallikarjunaRao,PrincipalofManipalCollegeofPharmaceuticalSciences(MCOPS).Theclassesare
beingconductedfrom5.30p.m.to6.30p.m.inInteractComplexbyManipalUniversityfacultyandtheirspouses,apressreleasesaid.
Dr.Koteshwara,whohasbeenconductingtheseclassesforthepasttwoyears,saidthatwithabitofdedicationandregularattendanceone
canlearnKannadainjust10hours.
Attendingtheclass,MadelineAnderson,asecondyearnursingstudentfromSwedenandTanLoonHan,athirdyeardentistrystudentfrom
Malaysia,said,LearningKannadaisveryvitalaswegetalotofclinicalexposureoflocalpeopleanditisnecessarytoconverseinthe
languagethepatientiscomfortablewith.

Karnataka.AnditpromotesthecultureofKarnatakatoo.
ElsaSanatombiDevi,afacultyfromManipalCollegeofNursing(MCON)said,ItisessentialtospeakKannadaflawlesslyandsoIhave
joinedtheseclassestolearntospeakKannadatoconnectwiththelocalpeopleinabetterway.
Teachingalanguageisaverychallengingtask.SwathiPai,facultyofDentistry,MelakaManipalMedicalCollege(MMMC)andtheVSO
FacultyCoordinatorforthisprojectsaid,WehavedevisedasimpleformulaetoenablestudentstolearnKannadaveryeasilyandquickly.

VSOalwayscomesupwithniftyprojectswhichhelpthecommunity,andSpokenKannadaclassesisoneofitskind
