22:4144]

The first sign that Jesus is Saviour was when he overcame the
three temptations of Satan in the desert [Matthew 4:111]

The second sign that Jesus is Saviour was Jesus using his power
to cast demons from people.
the man in the synagogue [Mark 1:2328]
the man living in the wild [Mark 5:120]

Jesus showed also that he had the power to destroy sin. The most
important example was:
the cure of the paralysed man [Mark 2:112]

9
Helped by the Word The story of Joseph [Genesis chapters 37-45]

The two testaments in Gods power is much greater than the temptations to do wrong
the Bible the Old and sin. Jesus showed this by forgiving peoples sins:
Testament and the the cripple before telling him to walk again [Mark 2:1-12]
New Testament. In the repentant thief, on the cross beside him [Luke 23:39-43].

10
The Spirit Frees Many Gospel stories show us that Jesus always chose to do good:
showing respect to all, even to sinners [John 8:111]
loving children [Mark 10:1316]
serving others, not taking them for granted [John 13:115].

The main stories of Mary being helped by the Holy Spirit are:
having the strength to say yes to the request from God that
she become the mother of Jesus [Luke 1:2638]
being strengthened to go to her cousin Elizabeth who was also
expecting a baby, later called John the Baptist [Luke 1:3549]
being strengthened to take care of Jesus, born in difficult
conditions [Luke 2:17]
being strengthened to care for Jesus, even though Simeon
prophesied that she would experience suffering [Luke 2:3335]
being strengthened to face the difficult journey to Egypt, so that
her baby would be safe from Herod [Matthew 2:1318]
being strengthened to bring up Jesus, as God his real Father
wanted him to be brought up [Luke 2:5152]
being strengthened to stand by Jesus when he was dying on the
cross [John 19:2527].

Children need to be able to recall the following three stories of

John the Baptist:
he was filled with the Spirit when Mary, with Jesus in her womb,
visited Johns mother, Elizabeth [Luke 1:3541]
when he encouraged his followers to follow Jesus because he
knew that Jesus was more important [John 1:1939]
when he continued preaching to the King that he should stop
breaking Gods law, even though the King imprisoned him. This
led to the Kings wife planning Johns death [Luke 3:1920].

The promise of Jesus came true at Pentecost. Then all the

Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit. After this, the previously
weak Peter was strengthened:
to defend the Apostles in front of the crowd against the
accusation of being drunk, so great was the change in him after
Pentecost [Acts 2:1415, 2224, 3741]
to preach before the crowds [Acts 3:1226]
to preach, despite the risk of arrest [Acts 12:19]
to preach, reassured as he was by miracles that Christ was with
Him [Acts 9:3235 and 9:3643].

Jesus appointed Peter as leader of the Apostles and the first Pope:
Peter was appointed the rock upon which Jesus would found
the Church after being the first to recognise who Jesus is
[Matthew 16:1720].

Peter, however, was not a strong character before being filled

with the Holy Spirit. He:
tried to stop Jesus going to Jerusalem to suffer and to die [Mark
8:2732]
denied knowing Jesus after Jesus was arrested and placed on
trial [Mark 14:6672].
St Paul at first persecuted Christians. His life changed when Jesus:
appeared to him on the road to Damascus [Acts 9:19].
After being filled with the Spirit, Paul was strengthened to preach
the Gospel despite:
being stoned [Acts 14:1920]

11
We Are Called Jesus contributed to the development of other people in special
ways. He:
developed their understanding of God [Mark 10:1722]
restored people to health by curing them [Luke 18:3543]
helped people to find lasting happiness by teaching them to
seek God before everything else [Matthew 6:33].

Jesus cared for himself by observing the special day each

week that the Jewish people called the Sabbath [ Luke
4:1619].

Jesus taught that he had come to begin a new and special work:
to draw every human being into a new and closer relationship
with God . Jesus:
taught them to say The Lords Prayer [Matthew 6:9-13].

Mary shared in the special work of Jesus in a way no one else

could. She was with him as he worked:
she was at his birth as his mother [Luke 2:6-7]
Mary was there for the first of the special miracles that revealed
who Jesus is (called the signs) [John 2:1-12]
she was with Jesus when he died [John 19:25-27].

YR LEVEL UNIT OF WORK BIBLE STORY

12
YEAR SIX Celebrate Jesus as Jesus is the Son of God (recall two stories)
Lord the angel told Mary that Jesus is the Son of God [Luke 1:35]
God the Father said: You are my Son, the Beloved when
Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist [Mark 1:11]
when Jesus clothes became as bright as light, and the two holy
men appeared talking with them, God the Father again said: This
is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him. [Mark 9:7]
after he had been killed, Jesus rose from the dead on the Third
Day: something no one else has ever done [Matthew 28:1-10].

Jesus is fully human (recall two stories)

Jesus showed by his behaviour that he is also a human person,
just as we are. He:

The words of Jesus could even raise the dead:
the widows son [Luke 7:14]
the officials daughter [Luke 8:5455].
Jesus used words also to calm a storm [Mark 4:39].
Jesus showed the power of his words as his promises came to be
realised:
the royal officials son was cured [John 4:46-53]
Peter denied knowing Jesus, but he repented [Luke 22:3134].
Jesus is Saviour (recall two stories of conquering evil)
Jesus showed he had the power in him to conquer evil in its
different forms.
Temptations in the desert
Jesus conquered personal temptations by the devil while fasting in
the desert [Matthew 4:111].
Jesus conquered demons in people
Jesus drove demons out of people, including:
the man in the synagogue [Mark 1:2328]
the man living in the wild [Mark 5:120].
Jesus conquered sin
Jesus showed he had the power to conquer sin in people by
curing the cripple [Mark 2:111].

Jesus invited sinners to share in Gods Kingdom.

ate with tax collectors and others the Pharisees at that time
considered to be sinners [Luke 5:30; 7:39; 14:2]
stated that he had come to call sinners to repent so as to enter
into Gods Kingdom [Luke 5:32]
warned that the sincere prayer by the sinner for repentance was
more powerful than that of the good person who did not see their
need for God [Luke 18:914].
Of special importance were miracles that reversed evils the Jewish
people at that time thought of as caused by Satan. Jesus:

Come Be Reconciled Stories of Jesus belonging to a family [Matthew 1:18-25]
Infancy narratives [Matthew 1:18-25, 2:1-12 & Luke 2:1-40]

As learnt in earlier years:

God called a holy man, Joseph, to marry Mary. God wanted
Joseph to take care of Jesus as if he was Josephs own son
[Matthew 1:20-25]
Jesus also had special friends like Mary Magdalene, Salome
[Mark 15:40-41], Susanna, Joanna [Luke 8:1-3], Lazarus, Peter,
James, John and the other Apostles
[John 11:5, Mark 3:15-19]
the most famous cousin of Jesus was the prophet, John the
Baptist, the son of Elizabeth, a cousin of Mary [Luke 1:36, 39-45,
57-60].
The Apostles needed forgiveness
instead of staying to help Jesus, they ran away when the
soldiers came to arrest him [Matthew 26:47-56]
Peter had denied ever knowing Jesus [Mark 14:6672].
Zacchaeus [Luke 19:1-10].

Empowered by the Jesus mission was to teach about God, and how people need to
Spirit live to become close to God. In time, the teachings of Jesus led
many to oppose him.
Eventually they plotted to kill him [John 11:4554].
Jesus:
gave his life, rather than disobey God [Luke 23:4446]
refused to run away [Luke 22:4146]
continued to teach [John 6:5966]

Jesus also showed love by caring for people in difficult situations.

He overcame his sufferings to make sure that Mary, his mother,
was provided for [John 19:2527].
This promise was fulfilled at Pentecost [Acts 2:347].
The Apostles handed on the Holy Spirit through what now is called
the Sacrament of Confirmation [Acts 8:1417; 19:16]

The main stories of Mary being helped by the Holy Spirit are:
having the strength to say yes to the angel Gabriels request
from God that Mary become the mother of Jesus [Luke 1:2638]
being strengthened to go to her cousin Elizabeth who was also
expecting her baby, later called John the Baptist [Luke 1:3956]
being strengthened to care for Jesus, born in difficult conditions
[Luke 2:17]
being strengthened to continue to care for Jesus, she would
experience suffering [Luke 2:3335]
being strengthened to face the difficult journey with her baby to
Egypt, so he would be safe from Herod [Matthew 2:1318]
being strengthened to bring up Jesus as God wanted him
brought up [Luke 2:5152]
being strengthened to stand by Jesus when he was dying [John
19:2527].

Students need to be able to recall, of all the Gospel references,

the following three stories of
John the Baptist, showing he was filled with Spirit:
when Mary, with Jesus in her womb, visited Johns mother,
Elizabeth [Luke 1:3941]
he showed he was strong enough to encourage his followers to
follow Jesus because he knew that Jesus was more important
than he was [John 1:1939]
he showed his strength by continuing to preach to the King that
he should stop breaking Gods law. This led to his imprisonment
and the Kings wife planning Johns death [Luke 3:1920].

Jesus appointed Peter as leader of the Apostles and the first Pope
when Peter was appointed the rock upon which Jesus would
found the Church after being the first to recognise who
Jesus is [Matthew 16:1720].
Peter, however, was not a strong character before being filled
with the Holy Spirit. He:
tried to stop Jesus going to Jerusalem [Mark 8:2732]
denied knowing Jesus [Mark 14:6672].
Peter, was strengthened:
to defend the Apostles in front of the crowd against the
accusation of being drunk [Acts 2:1415, 2224, 3741]
to preach before the crowds [Acts 3:1226]
to preach, despite the risk of arrest [Acts 12:19]
to preach, reassured that Christ was with him [Acts 9:3243]

Stirred Through Jesus experienced emotions. However, Jesus chose
Emotion to do what was truly good for other people. For example,
he chose always what was good for others when:
Recall: What the love served his will to do what was good for the children [Luke
Bible is 18: 1517]
As learnt in earlier courage served his will to die for people to save them [Luke
years, the Bible: 22:3946]
is a collection of compassion served his will to do what was good for the widow
books written under [Luke 7: 1117]
the guidance of God sadness served his will for the good of people [Luke 19:41-44]
contains all and only anger [John 2:13-22].

has two testaments
the Old Testament, The First Creation Account [Genesis 1:12:4a]
the New Testament, Second Creation Account [Genesis 2:4b25]
It includes the The Story of the Fall [Genesis 2:917 and Chapter 3]
Gospels of The Story of Cain and Abel [Genesis 4:1-16]
Matthew The Story of Noah and the Flood [Genesis 6:5-9:17]
Mark The Story of the Tower of Babel [Genesis 11:1-9]

John. Joshua
Moses passed on Gods power to Joshua by laying his hands on
Joshuas head [Numbers 27:2223].
Joshua:
led the people into the Promised Land [Joshua 1:15, 1017;
3:14:24]
conquered those who resisted in Jericho through Gods power
[Joshua 5:136:16 and 2021].

Deborah
After Joshua, God appointed other leaders for Israel called
Judges. A significant Judge was Deborah.
Through her:
God freed Israel from the people of Canaan [Judges 4:116, 23-
24].

Samson
Samson is perhaps the most famous of the Judges.
Samson:
was promised by an angel to his mother to serve as a man of
God [Judges 13:125]
had great strength from God, and so:
killed a lion with his bare hands [Judges 14:56]
set fire to the crops of the Philistines [Judges 15:45]
conquered the Philistines, who attacked Israelites, using just the
jaw-bone of a donkey
[Judges 15:920]
grew proud and was betrayed by Delilah [Judges 16:422]
destroyed the assembly of Philistines [Judges 16:2331].

Saul
Saul, recognised by Samuel as the one chosen by God to be king:
was consecrated by Samuel and appointed by the tribe kings of
Israel around 1030 BC [1 Samuel 9:26-10:1]

Working with God Two creation stories in the Book of Genesis [1:1-2:3, 2:4-2:5].

As learned in earlier years, Jesus worked in many ways. He:

used his skills as a carpenter [Mark 6:3]
used his special powers to care for the sick [Mark 8:22-26]
forgave people of their sins [Luke 7:48]
cared for everyone by using his teaching skills to teach many
things people need to know to love God [Matthew 6:7-13].

Jesus contributed to the development of other people in special

ways. He:
developed their understanding by teaching them about God
[Mark 10:17-22]
restored people to healthy bodies [Luke 18:35-43]
helped people to find lasting happiness by teaching them to
seek God [Matthew 6:33].

Jesus came to do special work. He:

started his Church [Matthew 16:18]
gave his followers the Seven Sacraments
taught them to say the Our Father [Matthew 6:9-13].

The work of Jesus demonstrated that the power of God could

conquer evils God never intended human beings to experience,
such as:
sin [Mark 2:1-12]
sickness [Mark 1:29-31 or 5:25-34]
death [Luke 7:11-17].

Jesus personally conquered the Devil and demons. He:

resisted the Devils temptations in the desert [Matthew 4:1-11]
drove demons out of human beings who had been possessed by
them [Mark 1:21-28; 5:1-20].

Jesus demonstrated that his power is greater even than the forces
of nature. He could:
calm storms [Mark 4:35-41]
calm powerful winds [Mark 6:45-52].

The final conquest of evil

Jesus taught that, eventually, he would conquer all evil. This
would happen when he comes again at the end of time [Luke
21:25-28].
