CLASSROOM RULES AND POLICIES

1. RESPECT SELF, OTHERS AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. I


EXPECT EACH STUDENT IN THE CLASS TO BE ADULT IN HIS OR
HER BEHAVIOR AND TO TREAT THE OTHER STUDENTS AND THE
TEACHER WITH THE RESPECT THAT HE OR SHE EXPECTS TO
RECEIVE. EACH STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS
AND BE ON TASK. FOLLOW ALL SCHOOL RULES AND POLICIES
AS OUTLINED IN THE STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK FOR 2016-
2017.
2. UTILIZE TIME EFFICIENTLY AND STAY ON TASK. BE IN
ASSIGNED SEAT AND COMPLETING WARM-UP ACTIVITY WHEN
CLASS BEGINS. REMAIN IN YOUR SEAT WHEN THE BELL RINGS; I
WILL DISMISS THE CLASS.
3. LEARN AND BE OPEN TO NEW LEARNING. PAY ATTENTION
AND TAKE PART IN CLASS ACTIVITIES. PARTICIPATE AND ASK
QUESTIONS. THIS MEANS THAT YOU MAY NOT WORK ON OTHER
ASSIGNMENTS, SLEEP, EAT, GROOM, CHAT, WRITE NOTES, TEXT
OR TAKE CARE OF EXTRACURRICULAR MATTERS, ETC., UNLESS
GIVEN SPECIFIC PERMISSION. YOU CAN'T LEARN IF YOU DON'T
PARTICIPATE.
4. EVERY DAY IS A NEW DAY; DONT DWELL ON PAST
MISTAKES. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL,
TAKE THE TIME TO COME TO TUTORING AND KEEP TRYING.
5. SUPPLIES ARE NECESSARY! BRING THEM TO CLASS
EVERYDAY. BRING YOUR SUPPLIES AND STUDENT ID CARD TO
CLASS DAILY. ID CARDS ARE MANDATORY!
6. HAVE PROPER MANNERS.
TEASING, MAKING FUN OF, BULLYING, OR RUDENESS IN
GENERAL TOWARDS ANYONE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
YOU WILL USE POLITE SPEECH AND BODY LANGUAGE WHEN
TALKING TO EACH OTHER AND TEACHERS.
DO NOT SAY "SHUT UP" AND DO NOT CALL OTHERS
STUPIDETC
DO RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S BELONGINGS THINGS. DON'T
TAKE, BREAK,OR DEFACE THINGS.
DON'T THROW THINGS. THE TRASH CAN IS NOT A
BASKETBALL HOOP. AS YOU LEAVE AT THE END OF
CLASS, GENTLY DROP YOUR TRASH IN THE CAN.
RAISE YOUR HAND WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO
SAY. DON'T JUST BLURT OUT ANSWERS.
7. USE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.
NO FOUL LANGUAGE, REGARDLESS OF WHAT LANGUAGE
YOU MAY BE SPEAKING. USE "THE GRANDMA FILTER."
STRIVE TO USE PROPER ENGLISH, NOT SLANG.
8. BE READY.
FOCUS ON CLASSWORK, NOT ON SOCIALIZING.
CELL PHONES, IPODS, ETC. ARE COVERED BY THE SH AND
ENFORCED. IF I SEE IT, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT IS
ON OR OFF, OR WHY I CAN SEE IT, I WILL TAKE IT
UP. THE FIRST TIME, I WILL RETURN IT AT THE END OF
CLASS (AFTER THE BELL). THE SECOND TIME, I WILL
RETURN IT AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY (AFTER 4:00
PM). THE THIRD TIME, I WILL SEND IT TO THE OFFICE
WHERE YOUR PARENTS MAY PICK IT UP FOR $15.

ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LESSON IF YOU DON'T
UNDERSTAND SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
PARTICIPATE IN THE LESSON.

IT IS UP TO YOU TO GET MISSED WORK AND NOTES.
I WILL NOT CHASE AFTER YOU TO GET MISSED TESTS OR

BRING PAPER, PENCILS, ERASERS, ETC. TO EVERY CLASS.
10. TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN YOUR EDUCATION
EMPLOY SELF-CONTROL TO ENSURE A POSITIVE
ENVIRONMENT. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN ONE OR
MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
CONSEQUENCES:
1ST OFFENSE: WARNING (VERBAL, EYE CONTACT,
GESTURE)
2ND OFFENSE: TEACHER DETENTION AND PARENT
CONTACTED
3RD OFFENSE: OFFICE REFERRAL AND PARENT
CONTACTED
SEVERE DISRUPTION WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE OFFICE
REFERRAL. IF A STUDENT DOES NOT ATTEND A DETENTION AN
OFFICE REFERRAL WILL RESULT.

LATE WORK: ALL ASSIGNMENTS IN A UNIT MUST BE TURNED


IN BY THE UNIT TEST DATE (MAJOR QUIZ FOR UNIT 1). AFTER
THAT DATE, MISSING HOMEWORK/QUIZZES WILL NO LONGER BE
ACCEPTED FOR THAT UNIT. (DEPT POLICY)

ABSENCES:
IF YOU ARE ABSENT, IT IS UP TO YOU TO GET YOUR
ASSIGNMENT AND ANY LECTURE NOTES. I WILL SET ASIDE YOUR
CLASS NOTES AND HOMEWORK SO CHECK WITH ME WHEN YOU
RETURN. IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO BE ABSENT AHEAD
OF TIME, CHECK WITH ME FOR THE ASSIGNMENT YOU WILL
MISS.
IF YOU ARE ABSENT, THE ASSIGNMENT DUE ON THE DAY YOU
WERE ABSENT IS DUE IMMEDIATELY UPON YOUR RETURN. IT IS
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PLACE THE ASSIGNMENT IN YOUR
CLASS ASSIGNMENT TRAY. IF YOU DO NOT TURN IN THE
ASSIGNMENT, IT WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE. ASSIGNMENTS
GIVEN WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT ARE TO BE COMPLETED
ACCORDING TO THE TIME ALLOTTED IN THE STUDENT
HANDBOOK. ANY ABSENT WORK NOT TURNED IN WITHIN THE
ALLOTTED TIME WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE. ANY MISSED
QUIZZES WILL ALSO FOLLOW THE ONE DAY PER ABSENCE RULE
AND MUST BE MADE UP DURING TUTORIALS OR BY
APPOINTMENT.

TESTS:
TESTS ARE ANNOUNCED IN ADVANCE. ALL WORK IS TO BE
SHOWN ON THE EXAM FOR FULL CREDIT. IF YOU ARE ABSENT
THE DAY OF A TEST, BE PREPARED TO TAKE THE TEST
IMMEDIATELY UPON YOUR RETURN. DUE TO CLASS
CONSTRAINTS, YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE TEST
DURING TUTORIALS BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL. AGAIN, IT IS
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COME IN TO TAKE THE TEST.

RETESTS:
RETESTS ARE GIVEN FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES IN THE
STUDENT HANDBOOK. IF YOU DO NOT PASS A TEST, YOU
WILL BE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO RETAKE THE TEST (NOT
THE SAME TEST) FOR A MAXIMUM GRADE OF 70%. A RETEST
MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THE ORIGINAL
TEST. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR THE RETEST.

TUTORIALS:
TUESDAYS AT 8:00 AM OR BY APPOINTMENT.
COME TO TUTORING PREPARED WITH QUESTIONS ON
HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY
BEFORE A TEST OR THE DAY OF THE TEST TO COME IN FOR
TUTORING. I WILL NOT TUTOR DURING THE TEST!
