T he Sun City Festival Board of Directors is currently seeking

volunteer candidates to serve on the Community Associations
Board of Directors. Article 3.5(a) of the Amended and Restated
Bylaws for the Community Association require that the Board
of Directors increase to five members when 33% of the total lots
planned in the community are owned by Class A Members, and
further require that two of those five members be Class A Mem-
bers. Based on current projections, we will attain the 33% built out
milestone at or near the end of 2017.

The Board of Directors will review all applications and select a slate of finalists who will be interviewed in
late November/early December. The Board of Directors will then select the two Class A Members to be
appointed to the Board effective January 1, 2018.

Homeowners in good standing with the Community Association who are

interested in serving the community by serving on the Board of Directors, who
are committed to upholding the Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions of the
Community Association, and who have an ability to listen and make informed
decisions that are in the best interests of the community are encouraged to
make their interest known by submitting a written application to the
Community Manager, Kim Rinehart that fully outlines their qualifications and
experience, and expresses why they desire to serve on the Board.

The deadline for applications is October 31, 2017, so interested residents should
get their application letters to Kim 928-252-2103 krinehart@aamaz.com at their
earliest convenience.

News
Mark and Linda Bettes
W e love our Sun City Festival community, neighbors, and
friends. Our new home is many miles from our original
roots. Linda was born and raised in southeastern Michigan. Mark
was raised in the Kansas City, Missouri area. We met in Gilbert,
Arizona while Mark was in the Air Force and Linda was teaching in
Mesa. Once we were married we returned to the Kansas City area
where Mark was a firefighter/EMT for Lees Summit, Missouri.
Linda was a teacher, elementary school counselor and Masters
Program Counselor Educator.

After retirement, God led us back to our original meeting place of

Arizona. While the transition was an emotional one at first, we
knew we would meet many new friends and enjoy resort style
living. Mark enjoys golfing and fishing. Linda enjoys watching
KC Royals baseball, cross stitching, card making and lady putters.
Together we enjoy movies, watching football, time in the pool,
bowling, and time spent having fun with family, friends, and our
son Ethan, who lives in Phoenix.

Player Development Clinic
As part of our Get Golf Ready program we will be
offering a Player Development Clinic on Monday
October 30th from 11:00-12:30. We will have
both full swing and short game stations set up
with emphasis on the basic fundamentals of each

Hit the Green for PCH
As part of Troons partnership with Phoenix Chil-
drens Hospital (PCH), we will once again be par-
ticipating by holding several Hit the Green for PCH
events. We will also be asking our guest to round
up their purchases to the nearest dollar at all of
our point of sale outlets here at Copper Canyon
and the Indigo Grille. These events started on
September 22nd and will run through November

2017 Over-Seeding Schedule
Golf Course Closes on Monday October 9th and
Opens on Saturday October 28th.
Why Over-Seed?
Each year we come to this time in October where we
close the course for three weeks and say we are Over-
Seeding. Why would we want to close the course for
three weeks just as the weather is getting nice and
the course is in great shape?
The reason is to provide our golfers with a better play-
ing surface and green grass during the cool winter
months. If we didnt go through the Over-Seed process
our Green Bermuda Base Turf Grass would become
Yellowish/Brown after our first frost of the year. The
Bermuda grass actually goes dormant during the
cooler winter months. For this reason we Over-Seed
with Rye Grass which is a cool season grass that is
able to grow in the cool winter months.
The process starts by cutting the Bermuda grass short
also called scalping, and continues with us cutting
the water supply, thus forcing the Bermuda grass into
a state of dormancy. From there we seed the course
with Rye grass, and because we have scalped the
Bermuda it creates an ideal environment for the Rye
Grass seed to germinate. We then turn the water
back on and continue to water, as the Rye Grass seed
needs to stay moist until it germinates. Once the seed
germinates we still need to let the plant mature; like
most plants the new grass starts with one blade and
as it matures each plant gets more and more blades
of grass. The weather in October is the ideal tempera-
tures for this process to take place, and also helps
from the Bermuda grass from continuing to grow.
Please remember that the golf course is closed to
pedestrian traffic, even when it is closed during over-
seeding. We appreciation your cooperation with this
matter.

Seed and we appreciate your patience during this
process.
