Objective of the work

The objective of the work is to design gating system for Aluminum Flywheel casting,
show the temperature distribution of the casting part during cooling in ansys and study the effect
of process parameters (i.e. pouring velocity, pouring time, height of the spure and choke area) for
validation of Aluminum Flywheel casting.

Introduction

Casting is a manufacturing process by which molten metal is introduced into a mould,

allowed to solidify within the mould, and then ejected or broken out to make a fabricated part.
Casting is used for making parts of complex shape that would be difficult or uneconomical to
make by other methods, such as cutting from solid material. A flywheel is a rotating mechanical
device that is used to store rotational energy. Flywheels have a significant moment of inertia and
thus resist changes in rotational speed.

FEM ANALYSIS USING ANSYS

Certain steps in formulating a finite element analysis of a physical problem are common
to all such analyses, whether structural, heat transfer, fluid flow, or some other problem. In this
we show temperature distribution during solidification of an aluminum flywheel casting
contained in a sand mold.

VALIDATION
By changing the process parameters like (pouring velocity, pouring time, height of the
spure and choke area) we can get optimum values for Aluminum casting.
