ANN ROEHM: Ann is a positive voice in the community as the Glad Hatters committee chair.
BOB JARVIS: Bob is always willing to pitch in at HLT. Bob repairs and maintains the building, sound,
lights, pavilion, and so many other areas of HLT. He comes almost everyday to clean up the shop, take
away construction garbage, work on a building improvement project, clean up sound and lighting
equipment, work on a set, or any other thing that needs attention. He truly is a hard worker and a man
that gets the job done.
DEWAYNE MERCER: Dewayne is always at the Theatre and willing to help. Dewayne does whatever is
needed and may be working on stage or back stage, taking out the trash, running a vacuum, and if the
Theatre wants a party, he hauls his karaoke equipment in and out of the Theatre for any and every
event and he always does it with a smile on his face.
JOHANNA JOHNSTON: Johanna served on the Board of Directors from 2015-2017. She has been
the Zenon Committee Administration Chair since 2015. This year she also volunteered to liaise with the
City obtaining an extension on building repair requirements to prevent the theatre from receiving any
fines. She has developed various YouTube videos to help promote HLT. She is also now leading the
transition to digital services for advertising and playbills. This year she was recognized as 2017
Ambassador of the Year Recipient exemplifying her commitment and service to Highlands Little
Theatre.
LINDSAY LYNCH: Lindsay Lynch is not only a Director and an Actor, but she is also active in front of the
curtain. If Lindsay had not intervened with the play company we would not have had the opportunity
to perform Les Miserables plus we would have had to explain to our patrons that we sold tickets to a
show that we did not have a license to even advertise. Now Lindsay is the Chair of Contracts and
Licenses with the various play vendors. During the run of Les Miserables, it was Lindsay that negotiated
with the City of Sebring regarding our parking problem with the Triathlon and reached a compromise.
Recently Lindsay has submitted a grant application to the Division of Cultural Affairs requesting funds
to replace our sound system. Lindsay has grown up at HLT and has grown into an articulate talented
young woman. Lindsay has secured and monitored more than $200,000 in grant funding in order for
HLT to provide updated seating, sound, and hanging stock, to name a few projects.
MELODI POWELL: Melodi worked tirelessly on the Moonlight, Martinis and Meatballs event, and is a
dedicated usher.
MILLIE HAVLOCK: Millie does a fantastic job as the House Manager.
NELLY FORD: Nelly graciously took the chair position on the play selection committee. She has done a
fabulous job leading the directors to make the best artistic decisions for HLT.
LAURA BYRON WADE: Laura may not be old, but she has spent the majority of her life at Highlands
Little Theatre (HLT); Laura has literally grown up at HLT. Laura first appeared on the HLT stage in 1990
at the age of 10 as a part of a musical Christmas Show. The show had performances Thursday Sunday
which was a perfect beginning. Laura attended auditions for the musical, The Music Man. Laura made it
through the audition, but hyperventilated and withdrew her name. Two years later Laura ventured
back to HLT as part of stage crew for Theyre Playing Our Song, Funny Girl and Inherit the Wind. Laura
gradually gained the courage and confidence to appear as a villager in Teahouse of the August Moon
and the following season was in the chorus for South Pacific. From this point forward Laura was either
on stage or providing support backstage. HLT served a Prime RIB Dinner and Laura volunteered in the
dining room before shows. The first large role was the part of Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof. Laura had
the amazing ability to sing and cry at the same time. By Lauras senior year in High School, her goal was
to earn a lead, and Paint Your Wagon provided the opportunity. Laura was the first recipient of the
Jane Lou Buck Scholarship as Laura graduated from Sebring High School and headed to Florida Southern
College as a Theater Major. Laura graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a
Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. Laura went on to the University of Alabama and completed 2 years of a
Masters in Fine Arts theatrical program. Laura honed her acting, singing, dancing and productions skills
along the way. Laura returned to Highlands County with her daughter Elise and married the love of her
life. Laura returned with many theatrical skills and talents that she has readily shared with her HLT
family and friends. Upon her return, Laura appeared on the HLT stage as Belle in the 2008-09 season in
Beauty and the Beast. Laura gradually became more active with HLT as a board member, show director
and acting on stage. Laura has now introduced her two daughters Elise and Harley to theater and like
their mother they have fallen in love with live theater. Laura is an instrumental part of the summer
theater youth program, a certified director, chair of the Marketing committee, part of many production
teams and is often seen on stage. Lauras passion for live theater and love for Highlands Little Theatre is
evident. Laura has earned the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The
PATTY YOUNG: Her influence on Highlands Little Theatre spans generations. During her tenure at the
Theatre, Patty has left her personal touch on nearly every aspect of HLT both on-stage and off-stage.
A graduate of Lake Placid High School, Patty taps into her deep connections within the community to
draw a unique blend of volunteers and supporters of varied experiences and personalities to add to
the Theatres unique kaleidoscope of members. An accomplished actor and singer, Patty has evolved
into a leader off-the-stage. A former educator and now officer with the Department of Juvenile Justice,
Patty has implemented values of service above self. Patty has served four terms as an at-large member
of the Board of Directors, two terms as Secretary, and a term as Vice-President. The director of four
main stage shows and multiple fundraisers, Patty has also taken the stage in more than a dozen shows
work that has earned her multiple Zenons. Working with Patty is truly a family affair. Each of her four
children have at various times volunteered at the Theatre. But, with Patty, the family of Theatre runs
even deeper. Her shows have gained generational appeal as actors and artists now turned parents
return to the Theatre with children of their own to share in the wonders of community theatre as
relationships among cast members quickly turn into lifelong friendships. Patty continues to serve as a
paragon of service, dedicated to encouraging the growth in others, and continuing to be a pillar of the
Highlands Little Theatre Family.
STEVE MCDANIEL: Steve was an active member of HLT since 1995. He was a part of over 40 shows, on
or off stage. He served on the Board of Directors and was the Play Selection Committee chair for many
years, which is not an easy job. Corralling 15+ directors so that they can choose a season is a difficult
task and Steve always led with grace and fairness. He emceed countless Zenon Awards shows including
last year when his health really should have kept him home. He showed all of us what dedication and a
love of theater looks like. He was a true friend and a cherished member of our HLT family. He will be
missed, but remembered in our hearts and posthumously through this award.
