INTRODUCE
Waste Business Journal (n.d) defines garbage as material that is discarded because it is
useless to its owner, broken, ineffective or not used anymore. Waste online (2004) also defines
that garbage is what people throw away because they do not need it or want it. According to
APHA (American Public Health Association) defines garbage as something that is not used,
unused, unwanted, or anything that is thrown away, which is derived from human activities and
does not happen by itself.
Based on the above definition can be concluded that the universal definition of garbage is
a material disposed of by people because it is broken, unused, unwanted, unusable, unneeded,
unnecessary and derived from human activities that do not happen by itself.
The garbage management problem is a crucial issue that exists in every country. Each
country tried various renewable technologies to reduce the amount of garbage generated. No
exception developed countries like Japan, Japan has many ways of managing waste in the
country, such as managing burning system, managing plastic waste into fuel, processing
household waste into clean water and have many companies engaged in waste management both
private and government. Therefore, as a student of Sakura Science Program we have admiration
and want to make Japan as a role model in garbage management in Indonesia especially
Gorontalo.
PURPOSE
Identify the problem of garbage management in Gorontalo based on the existing garbage
condition.
METHODS
1. Study literature
In this method we do an evaluation on WASTE MANAGEMENT LAW NUMBER
137/1970, UU Number 18/2008 Clause 13 and BookGuide to Separating household
garbage. Our evaluation is useful to provide a general description of the garbage
2. Observation
In this research we conducted two observations. The first observations were made in the
Masuru village of Gorontalo and the second observation was conducted in Seiyo City of
Japan. In Masuru Village we made observations to determine the condition of existing
garbage in Gorontalo. as well as the Seiyo City, we make observations from the
garbage/waste treatment plant common to household waste treatment plant.
