Delay Granted In New Church Construction
Central Presbyterian
given until 2020 for
review of new building

The Clayton Plan Commission/
Architectural Review Board on Sept.
18 was updated on the progress of the
expansion of Central Presbyterian
Church, 7700 Davis Drive at Hanley
Road.
Tim Page, the churchs executive
director, said completion of the first
part of the expansion, which includes a
91-space parking garage, has helped to
improve relationships with residents
in the neighboring Davis Place
subdivision.
The second part of the expansion
will be construction of a three-story,
23,817-square-foot building for use as
fellowship space.
The board approved two-year
extensions from March 2018 to
March 2020 for the site plan and
architectural review of the new
building.
Representatives of the church said
more time was needed because the
church is conducting a search for a
new senior pastor. They want to give
the new pastor time to settle in before
completion of the project.
Prior to completion of the garage,
residents complained about limited
access to their homes and had
concerns about emergency vehicles,
especially fire trucks, gaining access
to their neighborhood due to vehicles
parked on nearby streets during
church services.
Several members of the board said
they had received letters expressing
concerns about allowing more time
for the project. Some board members
voiced their own concerns about
the projects timeline. New church
construction was approved in late
2012, but board members said they
understood the reasoning for allowing
the church more time.
Design Competition
Seeks Submissions
Great Rivers Greenway is now
accepting submissions from interested
design teams for an international
design competition.
The goal is to have the Choteau
Greenway be a dynamic and unique St.
Louis experience, similar to the High
Line in New York City or the Atlanta
Beltline. The process will result in
a conceptual plan that will connect
Forest Park and Washington University
to the Gateway Arch grounds.
Design teams can register to
download the competition manual at
www.ChouteauGreenway.org and must
submit their qualifications by Nov. 21 to
be considered.
