Technicolor TG589vac Assigning Block IPs

If you are planning to use other devices which require their own WAN IP (e.g. hardware firewall, web
servers, etc.) you may need to configure the TG589vac so it knows there are multiple WAN IPs
assigned to the circuit.

This guide will show you how to configure the router and how to use the additional IP address.

In your web browser first go to 192.168.1.1 and log in with your routers username and password
(default is admin for both username and password).

Next select Setup Your Gateway.

Click on Show Advanced.

Select the Public Subnet tab and then toggle the Enable Subnet switch to on.

You should already know the range of IP addresses your ISP has provided. The above shows a block
of 8 WAN IPs with the range 172.16.1.88/29. The first and last IP address in the range (172.16.1.88)
is always the Subnet ID. The last IP in the range is the Broadcast Address (172.16.1.95). These are
used by the ISP so not usable IPs.

The first usable IP (172.16.1.89) is known as the Gateway Address so enter it into the box provided.
A block of 8 IPs (i.e. a /29) will always have the Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.248 so select that from
the drop down menu. The details in the grey boxes will automatically update.

As you can see from the above the other usable WAN IPs are 172.16.1.90 to 172.16.1.94 inclusive.

Click on Close to complete the process.

Assigning the second IP address

In order to configure a device to connect via the second usable IP address you will need to configure
the device manually. The below steps show how this is done on a PC but the same settings would
apply for other devices.

Go to the network adaptor, double click the icon, and select properties.
Then double click on Internet Protocol Version 4.

Tick the option Use the following IP address.

Enter the second usable IP address in the IP address field. (In our example this would be
172.16.1.90)
Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the default gateway to the first usable IP address (e.g. 172.16.1.89)
Set the DNS settings to the router or preferably Googles DNS servers (as above).
Click OK to save these settings.

The IPs will show in the blank space in the Network Connection Details.

If you now look at the details of your network connection you should see something like the above.

You can now check your IP address by typing into Google What is my IP and youll see the results.
