Whats Happening
ReadingWe are establishing Daily 5 during the
month of September. This is a management system
that allows students to get effective reading
practice in class that will help them grow as
readers. We will learn Read to Self, Work on
Writing, Read to Someone and Word Work, and
Listening. Students are completing beginning of
year reading assessments.
WritingWe are establishing Writers Workshop.
Students are enjoying learning to write narratives
about the moments in their lives
MathStudents will gain fluency with math facts
with totals through 20. Homework is reinforcing
strategies learned in class such as counting on and
make a ten. We will work on addition and
subtraction word problems also.

Wednesday Music Bring
routines and doing a great job with it. Other topics
Thursday - Technology
include community and learning about our
government. In Science, our first unit will be
weather.
Homework Folder: So far we have been reading for
20 minutes a day and doing one math sheet.
Spelling homework will begin in 1-2 weeks when we
begin Letter Land lessons. A blue direction sheet
will be in your childs homework folder at that time
explaining the Letter Land homework procedures
stay tuned.
Please initial the behavior calendar daily. The
directions about the colors do not apply to our class
because we use Class Dojo.
Our classroom community is really coming
together. If you have not sent in a photo
of your family yet, we would still love to
have one. Students love seeing a photo of
their loved ones on the wall of our
classroom!

Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle
to drink throughout the day. It is especially hot
after recess each day and students have been

Thank you for sending a note each day that your
childs end of day transportation changes. We
put these notes by the door to help us remember
changes so that all children get home safely!!
2nd graders get to use the spider climbing toy in
the carpool loop. Students must have closed toed
shoes on to use this equipment. Sandals and flip-
flops get caught on the rope and make for an
unsafe situation
We are having PE on Wednesdays for Quarter 1.
Please remind your student to wear tennis shoes
and avoid dresses on these days. Sometimes
students feel upset if they have forgotten and
arent able to join in the whole class activity.
