Main Scenario 1 Bomb Threat
A suspicious package is found in one of the tunnels leading to the field 30 minutes prior
to starting.
All Team Leaders and FA leads are called together by the Venue Manager and informed
of the incident. The police place the venue in lockdown, and everyone in the Stadium is
ordered to evacuate the stadium until further notice.
9:45 am There is a live feed of events being covered on Twitter and other social
media. The bomb squad has been called in and the press are asking the Deputy VPM
for confirmation and that the suspicious pack is a bomb.
10:00 am QPS (Queensland Police Service) put out a statement on their website that
they are treating the situation with the utmost caution.
10:10 am QPS release a statement that the suspicious package was just a false alarm.
10:25 am The press are asking for a spokesperson from GC2018 or QPS to comment
on the safety and security of all venues going into Games Time, as they are now worried
that no one was properly prepared for the imminent terrorist threat.
Does the event still go ahead? All Spectators are still outside the venue gates.

Main Scenario 2 - Cyclone
Day 3: Saturday 7th April GAC & SBP (Swimming and Triathlon)
Tropical Cyclone Claire has ripped through the Gold Coast overnight. Swimming is due
to start at 10:30am and Triathlon due to start at 9:30am.
The venues that are worst affected include the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre and Southport
Broadwater Parklands. There are large amounts of debris on the roads and in the
competition pools. The look and signage surrounding both venues have been wiped out.
Some of the metal scaffolding from the stand is lying beside the infrastructure on the
ground.
6:00 am - The GOLDOC Comms team has received several calls asking if competition
will be impacted. What do they say?
6:30 am Venue team arrives at GAC to find 40 press parked out the front. What does
the VPM do?
6:45 am The Venue team assesses the damage around GAC and speaks to the pool
staff, who are confident the pools can be cleaned in time for competition.
7:00 am SBP venue team have decided that the large pools and debris on the course
is too unsafe for the competition of the para and mixed team relay events to go ahead.
They report this to the GOC.

Little scenario 2: Power outage
Day 3: Saturday 7th April 9:00 am 11:45 am Coomera Indoor Sports Centre
(Artistic Gymnastics)
Midway through the Artistic Gymnastics final the power goes off at CSC turning the
venue into complete darkness. Children are in the stands screaming while others begin
to panic.
As the first tweet appears the Venue Press Manager calls the GCC to advise them of the
outage.
HB commentators using back up power, describe the scene being beamed to millions of
viewers around the world.
Day 5: Monday 9th April 10:30am 12:30pm Gold Coast Aquatic Centre
(Swimming prelim)
The digital team has started to notice an increase in Facebook Live activity: showing
long queues outside the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. Upon investigation it turns out that
only one out of the two pedestrian screening areas is working.
Due to one pedestrian screening area working this has caused the entry process to take
twice as long. This is causing major delays to get everyone into the event venue on
time and the first race is due to start in 30 minutes.
Engineers are working closely on the dysfunctional pedestrian screening area to get it
up and running.
10:00 am The spectator line is 1km long which means there are still hundreds of
people who need to get inside the venue and find their seats. The spectators are
beginning to get restless.
10:30 am The spectator line is 500m long and the engineers still havent fixed the
problem.
