Textbook Spivak - Calculus, 4th edition.
Office Hours and Problem Sessions TBA - note that you can always email me and
schedule a personal meeting outside of the official hours with any problem you might have
with the course!
Tests and Exams There would be 2 in-class midterms (1-hour long) and a 2-hours fi-
nal exam. Material for each midterm would be anounced at-least one week prior to the
midterms date.

Midterm 1 - 10.27 (tentative), Material - TBD


Midterm 2 - 11.13 (tentative), Material - TBD
Final Exam - Friday 12.8 - 10 : 30 12 : 30, (very not tentative, see policy bellow).

Incomplete Only in extreme medical situations/military reserve service/in case of celebra-


tions in due to a presidential resignation!

Homework Assigned weekly on Fridays, due to Friday by begining of class.
NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS whatsoever!
You may work in small groups, but each one must write his own solution independently.
Out of the N assignments, the best N 1 ones will count towards your grade. HW not handed
in will count as 0.
Grader - Philip Gaddy.

Grading final grade is calculated as follows:

Fcourse = max {0.2 HW + 0.3 Mavg + 0.5 Fexam , 0.2 HW + 0.2 Mavg + 0.6 Fexam } ,

where HW stands for homework grade, Mavg stands for the average of the midterms and
Fexam is the grade of the final exam.
Department Policy:

1. The final exam must occur at the time and place designated on the College
Final Exam Schedule. In particular no final examinations may be given during
the tenth week of the quarter, except in the case of graduating seniors.

2. Instructors are not premitted to excuse students from the scheduled time of
the final exam except in the cases of an Incomplete, or a graduating senior.

3. First two quarters of calculus are ineligible for P/F or P/N grading.

Tentative Schedule:

Week1(25.9) - Chapters 1-2 - fields, ordered fields, inequalities, induction.

Week2(2.10) - Chapters 3-4 - functions, graphs.

Week3(9.10) - Chapters 5-6 - limits and contiuity.

Week4(16.10) - Chapter 7 - main theorems about continuous functions, end of


material for midterm I.

Week5(23.10) - Chapter 8 - least upper bounds + midterm I.

Week6(30.10) - Chapter 9 - derivatives.

Week7(6.11) - Chapter 10 - differentiation, end of material for midterm II.

Week8(13.11) - Chapter 11 - midterm II + main theorems about differentiable


functions.

Week9(20.11) - end of Chapter 11 and start of Chapter 12 - inverse functions


+ Thanksgiving.

Week10(27.11) - end of Chapter 12 + reading period.
