Participating child/ren: Foundation 3-5 years old Timeframe: 40 Minutes

Sort, describe and name familiar two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects
in the environment (ACMMG009 )
Sort and classify familiar objects and explain the basis for these classifications.

Requirements/resources:
Dancing Shapes Dance Video Match Me In! boards
Art materials for ESL and learners with special needs i.e. Colouring pens, ruler,
papers, pencils and rubbers)
Indigenous arts pictures
Facilitation/Implementation:
Introduction
Introduce the new lesson about shapes.
Inform the class that at the end of this unit, their culminating task is to
present a stage performance in a Puppet and Balloon Animals Carnival.
To activate their prior knowledge, ask the children what their favourite
shapes are and let them provide an example of objects that represent the
shapes.
Motivate the class by instructing them to stand up and dance with the video
presentation about the Dancing Shapes.
Lesson Proper
Discuss the shapes using the video presented in order for the children to be
exposed and to master the different kinds of shapes.
Show the Indigenous arts pictures and ask the children to name shapes used
by the artist
Ask the children to identify and describe the shapes available in the learning
environment.
Activity - Match Me In!
Instruct the children to look for a partner.
Provide the Match Me In! boards.
Tell them that the goal of this activity is to match the shapes and colors
accordingly.
The pair to complete the board will receive congratulatory stickers.
Strategic Intervention
ESL and Learners with special needs
Instruct them to draw any objects with the use of different shapes
Aboriginal Students
Let the children draw any objects they see at home that make use of
Indigenous arts that make use of different shapes discussed
Provide example as their guide.
