Select <New>
Browse to C:\12d\10.00\12d NZ Training
Enter new Project name

The Project Details are used to automatically populate referenced items in the title block
when plotting.

2.3 Search Toolbar


The Search bar is normally at the top right of the 12d Model screen. You can type in words
(or part) to describe the option they require and lists of menus appear when the parameters
are met.

2.7 Status Bar


The Status Bar is an optional part of your desktop. It appears at the base of your desktop.
The Status Bar contains the Screen Message Box and the View Coordinates Box. It is
strongly recommended that you keep it turned ON.

2.8 Screen Message Box


The Screen Message Box contains messages that help you interact with the 12d menus. For
instance, when drawing a string the screen message box prompts you for both what the
command is expecting/waiting for and what mouse button selections will achieve.

2.9 View Coordinates Box


This box displays the XY coordinates of the cursor when in a Plan view and Chainage-Height
when in a Section view.

2.10 Output Window


The Output Window appears as a tab at the bottom left of the screen and flashes if there are
any messages that need to be reviewed.

3.0 STRING PICKING CONCEPTS

3.1 12d Snaps

Allow points selection

P = Point Snap
Allow line selection
L = Line Snap
X = Text Snap
G = Grid Snap Allow free selection
C= Cursor Snap

3.2 Normal Picking


Normal picking and selecting operations in 12d are done via the mouse and/or keyboard. A
command or option should precede the picking operation e.g. Create Line
The screen message box will display the command status and the picking options (see 2.6).
The results of mouse operations will be displayed in square brackets.

3.3 Picking with Direction


Picking a string is one operation where 12d Model is monitoring the cursor position when
button LB (or MB for fast pick) is pushed down and also the cursor position when button LB
(MB) is subsequently released.
The pick position is taken as the cursor position when button LB (MB) is released, but the
difference between the down and up positions for button LB (MB) defines a direction vector,
this direction is called the picking direction.

3.4 String Inquire


String Inquire is used to inquire and view the details of a typical line (i.e. string) that is
already present in the View. To activate String Inquire either select;
F2 key on the Keyboard
or, Strings > Inquire

or, String Inquire from the Inquire and Measure toolbar

4.0 EDITING STRINGS


12d Model String Parts

4.1 Vertex Edits


Editing the vertex (points) positions of a string allows you to change the shape and length of
the string, add additional information and/or attributes.
Strings > Points Edit > or;
Strings > Properties > Vertex, Strings > Properties > Vertex (all), or;
Cad Vertex Toolbar

4.2 Segment Edits


Editing the segments of the string allows you to change the colour of the segment, change
the segment shape (i.e. pipe) or add attributes.
Strings > Properties > Segment, Strings > Properties > Segment (all), or;
Cad Segment Toolbar

String Edits
Editing the String allows you to perform edits such as reverse, close, duplicate, offset etc.

4.3 Deleting Strings


Strings or parts of strings can be deleted to either change the shape of the string or remove it
entirely

5.0 VIEW DISPLAY SETTINGS


The way strings or data is viewed in any 12d Model Views can be set for each individual view
by selecting the views Toggle button on the View toolbar (see 2.4). View data such as z
values (heights), string names and string point (vertices) can be turned on and off

5.1 Changing the View Display


The way that View data is displayed can be changed for each individual view. This may be
the colour, size, or font of text or markers, or changing the contour interval and colour etc.
