Academy Site Leader (M-DCPS Lead Teacher/NAF Site

Coordinator) Duties
Organizational Title: Academy Site Leader: Site Coordinator/Lead Teacher

Rationale: The Academy is designed to prepare ALL students for college,


careers, and active civic participation.

Duties: The duties of the Academy Site Leader includes, but is not limited to
the following:

Academy Development

• Implement career academy model using, CASN Ten National Standards of


Practice, Six Core Principles, and NAF Membership Agreement (Model)

• Build and manage NAF Academy design team of stakeholder representatives


(Teaming)

o District staff

o Site-based administrator

o Academy Site leader (Lead Teacher/Site Coordinator)

o Academy teachers

o Core-subject teachers (integration)

o Guidance staff member

o Parents and/or students

• Facilitate strategic planning with NAF Academy design team and calendaring
(Planning)

• Complete NAF Self-Assessment with Academy design team and submit to


district staff and NAF Regional Director two weeks before Regional Director
visit or not later than deadline (December 15)

• Create and manage Academy budget with administrative guidance (Budget)

• Facilitate communications with team, administrators, district staff, Regional


Director (Communications)

• Collect and submit required data into NAF Data Center by deadline and
update regularly (Data)
• Collaborate with site-based and district staff (Support)

• Facilitate recruitment of students, staff, and partners (Recruitment)

• Participate in district and national professional development activities on


regular basis, including required attendance at the NAF Institute for Staff
Development (Professional Development)

• Manage student Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) (DECA,


FBLA, etc.) (Co-curricular Activities)

• Create and manage classroom and curricular enhancements (field trips,


speakers, projects, dual enrollment, mentoring, etc.) (Academy
Enhancements)

Internships

• Prepare students to assure a successful experience for both student and


employer (Internship Passport) (Preparation)

• Communicate guidelines and expectations with parents and employers


(Guidelines)

• Prepare and collect required preparatory and assessment materials


(Documentation)

• Collect and manage internship data and enter into NAF Data Center by
deadline (Data)

• Assist in securing internship positions (Recruitment)

Advisory Boards

• Attend all meetings as liaison or send designated replacement (Liaison)

• Prepare site reports and submit to district staff one week prior to all meetings
(Reporting)

• Assist in recruitment of new members (Recruitment)

• Communicate with partners when appropriate (Communication)

• Participate in industry-specific activities and trainings (student/industry


conference, job shadow day, teacher training day) (Professional
Development)

Curriculum
• Make sure four (4) NAF courses are offered during Academy experience
(Management)

• Make sure NAF curriculum is being taught according to guidelines


(sequencing, pairing, projects, scaffolding, etc.) (Management)

• Make sure that all Academy teachers have access to online curriculum
(Management)

• Recruit core-subject teachers to NAF Academy design team (Recruitment)

• Work with master scheduler to create cohorts of Academy students
