VALPARAISO -- An independent Chicago filmmaker plans to shoot scenes in the Porter County Courthouse this
summer.

Following last month's Hollywood visit to Crown Point in Lake County, it's Valparaiso's turn at getting some exposure,
albeit on a smaller scale.

Joel Sacramento, the film's co-producer and cinematographer, has colleagues and family members who live in the
region. He said the crew plans to shoot the scene in late June.

"It's a beautiful courthouse for sure ... not to be done up by Crown Point and Johnny Depp," said Sacramento, referring
to the Michael Mann-directed project that brought Johnny Depp to shoot scenes at the Old Lake County Jail in Crown
Point last week.

The novel-based film, "Klya's Law," directed and written by Alessandro de Cristofaro, is about a fictitious nation in
turmoil that leads its leaders to a enact a radical measure.

In late June, the film crew will shoot a scene at a circuit courtroom during the weekend to not disrupt normal court
proceedings, Sacramento said.

"Everything has been carefully planned," he said.

The county Board of Commissioners and courthouse officials allowed the crew to use the property. The county will not
incur any expenses and the film crew, which has liability insurance, is paying for its own security.

This is the first instance that anyone has requested use of the courthouse for filmmaking purposes, said county
attorney Gwenn Rinkenberger.

A couple a years ago a group of ghost trackers sought approval to use the courthouse in the evening to look for spirits,
she said.

"My initial reaction was, under the right circumstances, how could it be harmful?" Rinkenberger said.
