Teens and drugs

Teens get involved with drugs for many different reasons. They are curious, they
want to fit in with a group of friends, they feel depressed and hope drugs will make
them feel better or forget their problems However most of them end up addicted
to these substances and facing serious problems. Unfortunately, teenagers dont
often see the link between their actions today and the consequences tomorrow.
They also have a tendency to feel indestructible and immune to the problems that
others experience. For this reason it is extremely important that they are made
aware of the dangers they face and of the fact that taking drugs does not solve their
problems. Gary and Joan are two young people who have clear ideas on this issue.
When asked for their opinion on illegal drugs Gary said: I dont think teens should
be taking drugs, but the fact is that many get addicted to them and they cant get
off them easily. There are drugs being sold at my school and some boys have
already tried to sell me some but I simply said no and left. Drug dealers should be
put in prison away from the kids that they are selling the drugs to. Joan shares
Garys opinion. She said: I dont think people should take drugs but if they start we
have to make them get off these substances. Adults have to think of ways to defend
kids from drug dealers. Sometimes they can be very persuasive and young people
believe in what they say. I would never consider taking drugs myself. I think there
are much better ways of having fun.
